Increase your chances of getting into college

In the third round of the Hanoi National University's competency assessment, Tran Ngoc Thuy Hien, a 12A student at Thanh Mien II High School, scored 123 points and was among the top 5 candidates with the highest scores. With this result, Hien can apply to many top universities.

Hien said he is preparing his application to the Foreign Trade University based on the results of the competency assessment test. With this score, Hien is almost certain to be admitted because in 2023, the Foreign Trade University will accept applications based on the results of the competency assessment test of the Hanoi National University, which is 100 points on a 150-point scale.

Similarly, last April, Pham Ngoc Huyen, a 12th grader at Thanh Mien High School, took the National University of Hanoi’s aptitude test and scored 92 points. She plans to use this result to apply to the University of Commerce. This school accepts applications based on the National University of Hanoi’s aptitude test results, which are 80 points on a 150-point scale. On May 27, Huyen will take the next test with the hope of scoring over 100 points to apply to the National Economics University.

Many students said that investing time and effort to participate in the competency assessment exam is to increase their chances of being admitted to university. In many sessions, students in Hai Duong can take the exam in Hanoi, Hai Phong or Nam Dinh. Many others said that seeing their friends taking the exam, they also took the exam to experience and evaluate their own abilities. This is also a reason why the number of students taking the competency assessment exam has increased.

According to the reporter's investigation, in 2023, many high schools in Hai Duong had a sharp increase in the number of students participating in the capacity assessment exam compared to 2022, such as Kinh Mon high schools with about 200 students, Ninh Giang with 180 students, Kim Thanh with 99 students, Thanh Mien II with 79 students, Thanh Ha with 66 students, Doan Thuong with 60 students...

Thanh Mien High School has 378 12th grade students, nearly 100% of whom participated in the Hanoi National University's competency assessment exam, an increase of more than 50% compared to 2022.

Some high school teachers said that in 2023, more units will organize their own capacity assessment exams for university admission. Many schools will recognize the results and increase admission quotas with the capacity assessment exams of Hanoi National University, Hanoi Pedagogical University and the Ministry of Public Security. In particular, students mainly take the capacity assessment exam of Hanoi National University. This is an inevitable trend that increases the chances of being admitted to universities in majors that match the candidates' wishes.

No need to join exam preparation center

As the number of candidates taking the competency assessment exam increases, many online exam preparation centers and sites have appeared, advertising on social networks. However, many students believe that there is no need to join exam preparation centers, because the exam questions are designed to assess the candidates' real abilities, without rote learning.

It is important to determine goals early to build a plan, review time and accumulate knowledge appropriately. Tran Ngoc Thuy Hien said she started learning about this exam and accumulating knowledge since grade 10. Having a firm grasp of basic textbook knowledge and understanding the nature of the problem will help her pass the competency assessment exam with good results.

"The knowledge in the test is quite broad and open, so you need to study seriously and pay attention to what is happening in society to get a high score on the test," Hien said.

Although it is an open exam according to students' needs, the Department of Education and Training is also interested in introducing open learning resources. High schools instruct teachers to research, integrate knowledge in class, and support students in reviewing. Mr. Do Duy Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, said that the department has introduced open learning resources including the competency assessment page https:dgnl.olm.vn to support teachers and students in referring and reviewing.
The structure of the Hanoi National University's competency assessment test includes: part 1 - quantitative thinking (mathematics); part 2: qualitative thinking (literature - language); part 3 - science (natural - social). Each test has 50 questions with a total of 150 points, knowledge from grade 10 to grade 12. In 2023, there will be 8 test sessions from March to June with about 86,000 candidates participating.
