When viewed from above, Leitisvatn gives the impression that the lake's water is about to fall into the sea at any moment. However, in reality, the lake is only about 30m above sea level and is surrounded by majestic cliffs, and it is the optical illusion that creates the feeling that the lake is halfway between the sky and the sea.
