Striker Deniz Undav's brace helped Germany beat Bosnia 2-1 in the Nations League group stage.
At Bosnia's Bilino Polje Stadium, Germany controlled 74% of the ball. However, the former World Cup and Euro champions' greatest success was to limit the home team's counter-attacks. Bosnia's defense played disciplined, sitting deep and tightening the space, leaving Germany with few scoring opportunities.
Germany had to wait until the 30th minute to open the scoring. With their backs to goal, Florian Wirtz backheeled the ball for Deniz Undav to score.
In the 36th minute, Undav finished from Maximilian Mittlestaedt's cross to complete his double. The 28-year-old striker of Turkish origin scored his third goal in five international matches.
After Undav's two goals, Germany struggled to find a third. Partly due to Bosnia's disciplined defense, partly because the visitors deliberately slowed down the tempo.
In the 70th minute, Edin Dzeko headed from a corner kick to reduce the score to 1-2 for Bosnia. In addition, Ermedin Demirovic also shot against the German goal.
The atmosphere became tense towards the end of the match as Bosnia tried to find a second goal. However, the remaining time was not enough for the home team.
After the win in Bilino Polje, Germany continued to lead Group A3 Nations League. Nagelsmann's team has seven points, two more than the Netherlands.
On October 14, in the fourth round, Germany will host the Netherlands in the second leg. The two teams leading the group after six rounds will advance to the quarter-finals.
