Before the final round of Group A matches, Germany had already secured qualification for the group stage after two wins. However, the host country still wanted to top Group A to have a more favorable draw in the knockout round.
With that goal in mind, the EURO 2024 home team rushed to attack right after the opening whistle. In the 16th minute, midfielder Robert Andrich fired an extremely annoying long-range shot from a distance of more than 25m.
The ball hit the ground and goalkeeper Yann Sommer was unable to block it. Unfortunately, this goal of the Tank was not recognized.
Referee Daniele Orsato, after reviewing the video, determined that Jamal Musiala had previously committed a foul on the Swiss defender.
Having narrowly escaped defeat, Switzerland suddenly played better. Ndoye's excellent positioning and Embolo's good tackling ability helped Switzerland push the pressure back into the German half.
In the 29th minute, striker Dan Ndoye scored an accurate close-range shot to open the score for Switzerland. After conceding the goal, Germany rushed forward to find an equalizer. But Germany almost conceded a second goal.
Dan Ndoye had another chance to score just two minutes after his team took the lead. He accelerated impressively and fired a dangerous cross-angle shot, but unfortunately the ball went wide.
After the break, the German team showed their determination to score an equalizer. In the 51st minute, from a pass from Florian Wirtz, Musiala had a chance to face goalkeeper Sommer. Unfortunately, Musiala's shot was not dangerous.
Not wanting to lose at home, coach Julian Nagelsmann went all out by sending second striker Niclas Füllkrug and winger Leroy Sane onto the field.
After that, they mainly stuffed the ball quickly into the penalty area to take advantage of the height of Havertz and Füllkrug to find goals.
And when Germany was eager to find an equalizer, Ruben Vargas once again shot past Neuer. Luckily for the home team, Vargas had come down a step early and was caught offside.
Germany's efforts were rewarded when Niclas Fullkrug headed the ball into the Swiss net in the 90+2 minute.
This draw helps Germany still top Group A while Switzerland accepts to continue as second place.
