The application of GEN AI (generative artificial intelligence) in teaching in Tu Ky district (Hai Duong) has initially brought about clear results, contributing to improving the quality of education in the locality.
Many benefits
During the “literature introduction” class for 4-5 year olds at Minh Duc Kindergarten, teachers used electronic lessons designed from the GEN AI application. Poems or short stories are illustrated with many vivid images and motifs to help children get excited and enjoy the lesson.
Teacher Pham Thi Thao, a teacher at Minh Duc Kindergarten, said: “The GEN AI application can support teachers in everything from coming up with ideas to designing detailed lessons and compiling e-books for the library. Thanks to that, teachers can reduce the amount of work needed to prepare for each lesson. Lessons also become more interesting.”
In the 2024-2025 school year, Minh Duc Kindergarten identified the application of GEN AI in teaching as an important task. The school regularly organizes exchange activities, experience sharing between teachers, and thematic meetings on GEN AI application.
Currently, 100% of teachers in the school have designed their own electronic lessons from the application and applied them in class. Minh Duc Kindergarten is considered a typical unit in the district in applying GEN AI in management and teaching.
“The main benefit of GEN AI is its ability to optimize the teaching and learning process by creating rich and diverse lessons for each student. The school will make the effective application of GEN AI one of the evaluation criteria for teachers,” said Nguyen Thi Tuyet, Principal of Minh Duc Kindergarten.
At Phan Boi Chau Secondary School, some teachers have applied it to create midterm exams and develop curriculum for students. This November, the school also organized training on how to use GEN AI to create animated videos, convert photos into dynamic videos, and dub videos for some students with information technology skills.
According to teacher Nguyen Nam Hung, Principal of Phan Boi Chau Secondary School, teachers need to consider the GEN AI application as an assistant and must know how to operate and master it in order to exploit it effectively, while avoiding possible risks.
Previously, all school teachers were equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge in exploiting artificial intelligence tools, which are helpful for teaching and learning.
Synchronize
According to the Department of Education and Training of Tu Ky district, in the summer of the 2023-2024 school year, the Department of Education and Training of the district invited experts in the field of information technology to train, teach, and guide staff and teachers in schools on the application of GEN AI in education.
From the 2024-2025 school year, all 73 kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools in the district have synchronously deployed GEN AI applications into the teaching and learning process.
According to Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Head of the District Education and Training Department, applying GEN AI in operations, management, and teaching is a trend in the era of technology 4.0, contributing to the implementation of the Project "Enhancing the application of information technology and digital transformation in education and training in the period 2022-2025, with a vision to 2030".
Last October, the Tu Ky district education sector organized the largest STEM festival ever. Most notable was the competition to design educational products with GEN AI for preschool, primary and secondary school teachers with the theme "For a green-clean-beautiful-civilized Tu Ky". This is also the first locality in the province to organize this activity.
At the festival, representatives of the Department of Education and Training recognized Tu Ky district as the leading unit in the province in deploying and training GEN AI for managers and teachers in the entire industry.
Currently, some secondary schools in the district are launching a contest for students to apply Gen AI to create a short meaningful video about teachers and schools, inspiring the relationship between teachers and students on the occasion of November 20.
According to some teachers in schools in the district, applying AI to teaching and learning requires a certain amount of funding to maintain, develop and operate. The teaching staff needs to have the ability to master new technology and use it proficiently. These are also difficulties and barriers in using GEN AI applications that need to be overcome in the coming time.
