According to the report of the Traffic Safety Committee of Hai Duong province, in the first 6 months of 2024, there were 407 traffic accidents and collisions in the province, killing 114 people and injuring 353 people. Compared to the same period in 2023, there was an increase of 246 cases (152.8%), an increase of 10 deaths (9.6%), and an increase of 264 injuries (296.6%).

There were 405 road traffic accidents, killing 113 people and injuring 353; 1 railway accident, killing 1 person; 1 waterway accident, with no deaths or injuries.

In the whole province, there are only 3 localities with a decrease in the number of deaths due to traffic accidents, including Hai Duong city, Ninh Giang and Gia Loc districts.

8 localities with traffic accidents increased in all 3 criteria including Tu Ky, Nam Sach, Cam Giang, Kim Thanh, Binh Giang, Thanh Ha, Thanh Mien districts and Kinh Mon town.

Chi Linh City increased 2 criteria on number of cases, number of injured people, but the number of deaths did not increase or decrease.

Three localities with the number of deaths due to traffic accidents increasing by 50% or more include Binh Giang district, Cam Giang district and Kinh Mon town.

Traffic accidents involving children and adolescents in the first 6 months of the year increased sharply, with 112 children, accounting for 12.42%.

There are many reasons for the increase in traffic accidents. Many cases are due to the driver's awareness, many traffic accidents are due to falling, not controlling the speed, driving in the wrong part of the road, lane, drinking alcohol, changing direction incorrectly...

The number of vehicles increases every year, with an average of 10,000 new cars and 40,000 motorbikes and scooters registered each year. Meanwhile, the transport infrastructure has not kept up, many small-scale roads have not been upgraded or expanded, and many national and provincial highways have traffic volumes exceeding the designed traffic volume.

Road transport still accounts for a large proportion while railway and inland waterway transport are considered safer and have more potential but have not yet been effectively exploited...

The increase in traffic accidents is partly due to statistical methods. From the end of 2023, the Ministry of Public Security will direct the statistics of all traffic accidents and collisions, including traffic collisions without injuries, collisions and accidents that people resolve themselves, and traffic accidents where the victim dies a long time after treatment (previously, this case was mostly not included in the statistical list).
