The rocket carrying the Malligyong-1-1 reconnaissance satellite was launched on the evening of May 27 from the Sohae Satellite Launching Ground in Cholsan County, North Phyongan Province, however, the launch failed due to the rocket.
On May 27, North Korea confirmed that its previous reconnaissance satellite launch earlier in the day had failed.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) quoted the announcement of the Korean National Aerospace Administration (NATA) stating that the rocket carrying the Malligyong-1-1 reconnaissance satellite was launched on the evening of May 27 from the Sohae Satellite Launching Ground in Cholsan County, North Phyongan Province.
However, the launch failed as the rocket exploded shortly after leaving the launch pad.
Through inspection, experts preliminarily assessed that the cause of the incident was due to the limitation of the newly developed gasoline-mixed liquid oxygen engine.
Experts said they will continue to investigate to determine further causes of the incident.
