Vietnam General Confederation of Labor supports families of fishermen affected by ship sinking

The delegation of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor visited, shared the pain and loss and gave gifts to support the families of fishermen in distress.

On October 22, Mr. Vu Manh Tiem, Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL), and leaders of the Quang Nam Provincial Confederation of Labor visited and encouraged two families of fishermen who died in the sinking of a squid fishing boat in the Truong Sa sea area.

The two deceased fishermen were Mr. Do Van Hai (45 years old) and fisherman Luong Hung Vuong (38 years old), both from Dong An village, Tam Giang commune, Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam. The delegation also visited and encouraged the families of the 13 fishermen missing at sea.

The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor awarded each family of the deceased victim 10 million VND, and the Quang Nam Provincial Confederation of Labor awarded 3 million VND.

Also on October 22, at the Tam Giang Commune People's Committee, Mr. Vu Manh Tiem and the working group presented 78 million VND to support 78 fishermen who were in distress and returned alive. For the 13 fishermen who are still missing, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor will support 1 million VND/person. When the authorities finish searching and determine that they cannot find the fishermen, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor will support an additional 9 million VND/case according to regulations.

Previously, on October 20, the leaders of the Quang Nam Labor Federation also awarded 78 million VND in support to 78 fishermen on 2 ships that had an accident and returned alive. For the 13 missing fishermen, after the search was over and it was determined that they could not be found, the provincial Labor Federation awarded each case 3 million VND in support.

Regarding search and rescue work, according to the Quang Nam Provincial Border Guard Command, on October 21, at a meeting to discuss the search and rescue plan for 13 missing fishermen, all parties agreed to request that forces continue the search and rescue until the end of today (October 22).

Therefore, the Border Guard Command of Quang Nam province requested the Provincial People's Committee to report to the National Committee for Natural Disaster Response and Search and Rescue to direct search forces until October 22.

On the afternoon of October 20, 80 fishermen, including 2 bodies of sailors who had an accident in Truong Sa, were brought back to the mainland.

Previously, at around 7:30 p.m. on October 16, the squid fishing boat QNa 90129 TS (with 54 fishermen on board) was operating in the Truong Sa archipelago when it was sunk by a tornado.

Next, at about 1:00 a.m. on October 17, the QNa 90927 TS ship (with 39 fishermen on board) was fishing in an area about 135 nautical miles north-northwest of Song Tu Tay Island when it was sunk by waves.

On October 17, 80 fishermen on 2 sunken squid fishing boats were rescued by nearby vessels (2 people died), while 13 people were missing. Of these, 42 crew members of QNa 90129 TS were rescued, 2 people died, and 12 fishermen were missing. 38 crew members of QNa 90927 TS were rescued, and 1 fisherman was missing.

On the afternoon of October 20, 80 fishermen, including 2 bodies of sailors who had an accident in Truong Sa, were brought back to the mainland by Navy ship 467.
