An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attack in the city of Morozovsk in Russia's Rostov region caused a fire and disrupted the local power supply.
According to the Kyiv Independent website, the above information was reported by Russian officials and press agencies early on June 14.
Rostov Region Governor Vasily Golubev said Russian air defense units had faced a massive drone attack in the region’s Morozovsk district. The attack caused a power outage in some areas. According to Golubev, two drones hit an oil depot and set it on fire.
A fire also broke out in the city of Rostov, according to Astra, a Russian Telegram news channel. Locals reported hearing an explosion.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced that Russia shot down 87 Ukrainian UAVs on its territory overnight.
According to the Ministry, Russian air defenses shot down 70 UAVs in Rostov region, 6 in Voronezh region, 6 in Kursk region, 2 in Belgorod region, 2 in Volgograd region and one in Crimea.
Ukraine has not commented on the attack.
Rostov Oblast borders Ukraine to the southeast. Reports of UAV attacks on the region's oil infrastructure increased in the spring of 2024.
The Morozovsk district of the Rostov region is also home to a Russian military airbase.
In recent months, Ukrainian forces have carried out a series of UAV attacks aimed at damaging Russia's oil industry and military hardware.
