Ben Rung Bridge connecting Hai Phong with Quang Ninh opens to traffic

On the afternoon of July 17, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man attended the opening ceremony of Ben Rung bridge connecting Thuy Nguyen district of Hai Phong city with Quang Yen town of Quang Ninh province across Da Bach river.

Ben Rung Bridge project to replace Rung Ferry on the old National Highway 10. This is a special traffic project with a length of 1,865 m; the cross-section includes 4 motor lanes and 2 mixed lanes. The total investment is 1,941 billion VND; of which, the central budget is 1,249.5 billion VND and the budget of Hai Phong city and Quang Ninh province is 691.5 billion VND; Quang Ninh province invests in the Quang Ninh approach road with a length of 2.2 km with a total investment of 360 billion VND.

Ben Rung Bridge started construction in May 2022. After more than two years of construction, the project was completed on schedule, demonstrating the successful cooperation between Hai Phong city and Quang Ninh province.

Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee Nguyen Van Tung said that this is the result of concretizing Resolution No. 45 of the Politburo on building and developing Hai Phong city to 2030, with a vision to 2045 and the Working Program between the Standing Committee of Hai Phong City Party Committee and the Standing Committees of Quang Ninh and Hai Duong Provincial Party Committees on: "Agreeing to cooperate to accelerate development speed, complete the synchronous, modern, interconnected, comprehensive transport infrastructure system, promote regional and intra-regional connectivity".

Ben Rung Bridge, when completed and put into use, will improve the capacity of transport services, create an inter-regional transport connection system, meeting the travel needs of people between Thuy Nguyen district, Quang Yen town in particular and the two localities of Hai Phong and Quang Ninh in general; gradually complete the transport network of Hai Phong city, Quang Ninh province and the key economic region of the North; contribute to the development of socio-economy, culture, expand new development space, create modern landscapes and architecture, rich in identity, practical for tourism development of the two localities; ensure national defense and security; promote the solidarity and close relationship between the people of Hai Phong city and the people of Quang Ninh province, especially the people of the districts and towns where the project passes through.

According to Chairman Nguyen Van Tung, in recent years, Hai Phong city and Quang Ninh province have always developed strongly economically, ranking among the top in the country. The average total GRDP for 10 consecutive years has reached over 10%/year; budget revenue each year is higher than the previous year, increasing by an average of 12-34%/year.

Quang Ninh province has mobilized large resources from economic sectors to develop transport infrastructure, proactively and flexibly applying investment under the public-private partnership (PPP) method, completing the construction of 176km of expressway, connecting Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway to Mong Cai city, Quang Ninh province according to the plan.

Also in recent years, Hai Phong city has actively invested in large river bridges to connect traffic with localities; including the construction of Hoa River Bridge, Nghin 2 Bridge and coastal road to connect with Thai Binh province; Quang Thanh Bridge and Dinh Bridge to connect with Hai Duong province; Lai Xuan Bridge and Ben Rung Bridge to connect with Quang Ninh province. The total value of the bridges and connecting roads is nearly 10,000 billion VND.
