Temperature classification

  • Cool weather:Average daily temperatures range from 22 to 25 degrees Celsius.

Coldest temperature ever recorded

In Vietnam, the coldest temperature ever recorded was -6 degrees Celsius at Mau Son peak.

In the world, Yakutsk in Russia is the coldest city with temperatures that can drop to -64.4 degrees Celsius. The coldest temperature record is -89 degrees Celsius, measured in Vostok, Antarctica.

What is severe cold?

According to the General Department of Hydrometeorology, this phenomenon is mainly understood for the Northern Delta and midland, North Central region, where agricultural production activities are most active in the cold season.

The terms severe cold and freezing cold do not apply to mountainous areas because severe cold and freezing cold do not occur in single episodes but occur almost throughout the month. For example, in Sa Pa (Lao Cai), severe cold occurs almost throughout December, January and February.

- Cold: When the average daily temperature in the area fluctuates commonly between 13 and 15 degrees Celsius.

- Harmful cold: When the average daily temperature in the area drops below 13 degrees Celsius.

One thing to note is that the average daily temperature below 15 degrees Celsius and 13 degrees Celsius must be associated with cloudy weather and possibly light rain, then it is considered severe cold.

In fact, on clear days at night the temperature drops very low, but during the day the temperature rises very high, the average daily temperature can still be below 15 degrees Celsius but is not considered very cold.

In addition, severe cold is also divided into two typical types: dry cold and wet cold. In which, wet cold is a type of cold that makes your hands and feet numb and your feet cold with very high humidity (80 to 90%), temperature around 10 degrees Celsius with rain or snowfall, snow cover or ice in high mountains. The temperature inside and outside is not much different.

On the other hand, dry cold is more uncomfortable. The air temperature can drop to 7 to 9 degrees Celsius, humidity 20 - 30%, but there is no rain or even sunny days. At night, in the mountains, you can encounter frost and frost. The temperature inside the house is a little warmer than outside.
