According to the illustrative exam for the 2025 high school graduation geography subject, the notable new point is that candidates will no longer use the Vietnam Geography Atlas to take the exam as before.
Some high school geography teachers in Hai Duong said that during training sessions of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Vietnam Geography Atlas will no longer be used for the high school graduation exam in 2025. According to these teachers, the reason for not using the Atlas may be due to the change in the exam structure when there are 2 new question formats. Not using the Atlas is also to meet the innovation goals of the new 2018 general education program, promoting the qualities and abilities of students.
If there were an Atlas like before, candidates could easily get points on 12 questions with knowledge at the recognition level. This change will make it more difficult for students.
In addition to the 18 multiple-choice questions that have been used for many years, the 2025 sample test will have a true/false multiple-choice question format, with each question having 4 options, and candidates must answer true/false for each option in the question. This format requires candidates to have comprehensive knowledge and skills to achieve maximum points, limiting the "random" circling. With this type of question, candidates can earn points with difficulty but also lose points very quickly.
Another new format is the short answer multiple choice question. This format is similar to the essay question, and is assessed through the results that candidates must calculate and fill in on the answer sheet. This format requires candidates to have solid abilities, knowledge and skills, and also limits the "random" circling.
These teachers commented that with the new exam structure, it will be difficult for candidates to get 9-10 points like in previous years, except for really excellent students. To achieve maximum points, students must solve true/false questions well.
In addition to traditional teaching methods, teachers are also actively innovating to adapt; increasing professional exchanges; actively seeking rich learning resources... gradually finding suitable solutions to equip students with the best knowledge and test-taking skills.
According to the reporter's investigation, in the survey at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, Hai Duong province had about 7,800 students out of a total of more than 20,400 12th graders choosing geography for the 2025 high school graduation exam. This is the subject with the third largest number of candidates registering after physics and English.
