Tennis star Roger Federer said on August 13 that the timing of his return to the court is still uncertain.

The Swiss tennis player shared the above comments just a few weeks before the US Open started, although he still showed optimism at the age of 40.
Federer has only played 13 matches since the beginning of the year. He had to put his racket aside for more than a year to undergo two knee surgeries, forcing him to withdraw from a series of important tournaments including the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, ATP Toronto (Canada) and Cincinnati Masters (USA).
Federer, who celebrated his 40th birthday on August 8, said he is learning to accept that his recovery will now take two weeks, not two days. The US Open starts on August 30, but Federer is not sure whether he will be fit to play the final Grand Slam of the year.
In an interview with Blick, the tennis player said: "I haven't been able to do anything for a while because of a knee injury. I had to stop everything after Wimbledon (UK). This week, I have an appointment with the doctors and the coaching staff, then we'll see what happens next. Right now, everything is still uncertain."
Federer is the current champion in terms of Grand Slam titles. However, he is also shared with two other great rivals, Novak Djokovic (Serbia) and Rafael Nadal (Spain). This US Open will be an opportunity for three players to break away from the rest of the competition.
