Exfoliation is one of the important and indispensable steps in women's skin care routine.

There are many ways to have a smooth, bright and healthy skin such as using skin creams containing antioxidants or increasing collagen synthesis or resurfacing the skin with laser.... Exfoliation is one of the best ways that you can do at home to have a smooth, bright and healthy skin. However, if used incorrectly, the consequences will be very serious.

Types of exfoliants

There are two types of exfoliants available today: physical exfoliants and chemical exfoliants.

Physical exfoliation (also known as mechanical exfoliation) is the most common method of exfoliation. This method is performed by using cereal powders or small particles to rub and remove dead skin cells on the skin surface. However, physical exfoliation is often not complete and not 100% effective because stubborn dead cells are not easy to remove and these small particles can even cause damage and irritation to the skin due to frequent rubbing.

Chemical exfoliation is a highly effective method of exfoliating the skin using chemicals. Chemical exfoliants smooth the skin by dissolving the “glue” that holds skin cells to the surface of the skin. They can also exfoliate dead skin cells by digesting them. Hydroxy acids such as Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Retinol, and enzymes are some of the common names in chemical exfoliants.

How many times a week should I exfoliate?

Most beauty consultants, cosmetics salespeople and manufacturers recommend that women exfoliate their skin regularly 1-2 times a week. And the best time to do it is in the evening before you shower and when you go to bed.

Note when exfoliating the skin

Do not overdo exfoliation: Although regular exfoliation is very good for your skin, if you overdo it, the effect you get will be the opposite. You will destroy your skin, making your skin thinner, weaker, and not strong enough to fight against harmful external factors.

Do not exfoliate the eye area: The skin around the eyes is inherently very fragile and does not have as much dead skin as other areas of the face. Therefore, when exfoliating your face, you should absolutely avoid exfoliating the eye area.

Never use a body scrub to exfoliate your face. Body scrubs are often too harsh for your face, because the skin structure of your face and body is completely different. Therefore, you need separate exfoliants for these two areas.

With different skin types (dry skin, oily skin, sensitive skin, combination skin, normal skin, acne skin…) we must have separate exfoliating products that are suitable for each skin type. You should consider carefully before deciding to buy any exfoliating product to use.

Don't forget to moisturize your skin: After exfoliating your face, you will have a new look for your skin. But you must know one thing clearly, after exfoliating, your skin also loses moisture, causing the skin to dry. This is also the time when the skin absorbs nutrients best. So if you have time, you should apply additional skin care masks (preferably natural masks) after you have just exfoliated.
