After nearly 2 months of treatment for an accident caused by storm No. 3, teacher Nguyen Van Hung, born in 1980, Vice Principal of Kinh Mon 2 High School (Hai Duong) is still in a coma.
Ms. Luong Thi Thanh, wife of teacher Nguyen Van Hung, said that on September 7, storm No. 3 made landfall and blew off many roofs. When teacher Hung returned home from his storm duty at school, the neighbor's roof suddenly flew into the glass door, breaking the glass and an iron bar fell on his head, causing him to fall to the ground and become unconscious.
Immediately afterwards, he was taken to the Kinh Mon Town Medical Center for emergency treatment, then transferred to the Provincial General Hospital, and then to the Viet Duc Friendship Hospital (Hanoi) for emergency surgery in a state of severe brain trauma and deep coma. Mr. Hung had successful brain surgery, but after nearly 2 months of treatment, he is still in a coma. The treatment process is very expensive.
“My family has tried their best to do everything they can. My mother is old and weak, and now she still has to travel nearly 100 km from her hometown in Kinh Mon to Hanoi to help me take care of my husband. My two young children love their father and want to go to the hospital to take care of him. There are many days when my mother cries, my children cry, just hoping that our family can live peacefully like before,” Ms. Thanh said, sobbing.
Currently, Mr. Hung is receiving special treatment at the Department of Neurology 2, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital (Hanoi). His illness has not progressed, and his family members are taking turns taking care of him. Friends and colleagues are concerned, encouraging, and calling for support from the community. Some volunteer groups are sharing information on social networks calling for help for him.
“The family has spent nearly 500 million VND on his treatment, and now he continues to be hospitalized, and we don’t know when he will recover. My family is worried that our finances are getting worse, while our children are still in school age. We just hope that he will soon overcome the crisis, return to normal, and help me shoulder the family responsibilities,” said Ms. Thanh.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Principal of Kinh Mon II High School, said that Mr. Hung is an exemplary teacher and administrator, trusted and loved by colleagues and students. Upon learning of his situation, the Department of Education and Training of Hai Duong province and the school promptly paid attention, visited, and encouraged his family to try to treat and care for him so that Mr. Hung could recover soon.
"The cost of treatment is high and may be long, the school has called on staff, students and benefactors to support Mr. Hung's family. We hope to continue to receive help so that the family can have the conditions to treat Mr. Hung and soon regain health," said Mr. Tuan.
