On December 10, Sudan announced the expulsion of 15 diplomatic staff from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Embassy and asked them to leave the country within 48 hours.

Sudan's state news agency said the country's Foreign Ministry summoned the charge d'affaires of the UAE Embassy and informed her of the decision. The UAE has yet to respond to Sudan's move.

Late last month, a Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) general accused the UAE of sending supplies to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) – the SAF's rival.

In response, a UAE official said that from the beginning of the fighting, the UAE had “repeatedly called for de-escalation, ceasefire and the start of diplomatic dialogue” in Sudan.

Sudan has been facing a deteriorating humanitarian situation since deadly clashes broke out between the SAF and RSF in the capital Khartoum and other areas on 15 April.

Fighting between the SAF and RSF has displaced more than 6.5 million people and sparked a wave of ethnic conflict in Darfur. RSF has denied carrying out ethnic cleansing in Darfur.
