The number of people suspected of food poisoning after eating bread in Vung Tau has reached more than 290.

The Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health) requested the health sector of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province to urgently investigate and determine the cause of the incident in which hundreds of people were rushed to the emergency room suspected of being poisoned after eating bread.

Up to now, Vung Tau Hospital has received 224 emergency cases of suspected poisoning after eating bread.

This morning, November 28, the Food Safety Department announced that it had just sent an official dispatch to the Department of Health of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province regarding the investigation and handling of a suspected food poisoning case after eating bread that occurred in Vung Tau city.

Accordingly, the Department requested the local health sector to direct hospitals to focus all resources to actively treat patients, and if necessary, request professional consultation support from higher levels; organize investigations, clearly identify the cause of the incident; and trace the origin of food suspected of causing poisoning.

In addition, the Department proposed to temporarily suspend the operation of the facility suspected of causing poisoning; investigate the implementation of food safety regulations of the facility; strictly handle violations of food safety regulations (if any) and publicize the results to promptly warn the community.

Vung Tau Hospital received 224 patients, including 154 inpatients, all diagnosed with suspected food poisoning-related gastrointestinal disorders. Three severe cases, including two adults and one child, are now showing positive signs.

Vietsovpetro Medical Center recorded a few people coming for examination this morning. Previously, this place received 67 cases, of which 65 people were discharged.

Currently, Vung Tau City authorities have requested the owner of Co Ba bakery to temporarily suspend business until there is a conclusion; to check the origin at 4 bread production facilities and 2 pork and ham production facilities that supply input materials to the shop.

Previously, the Emergency Department - Vung Tau Hospital on the morning of November 27 received dozens of patients who were brought in with severe abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea, suspected of being caused by food poisoning.

These patients said they ate bread bought at Co Ba shop on the evening of November 26, then a few hours later they had severe stomach pain and vomiting. In many cases, the whole family was affected.
