The recent storm No. 3 has affected the lives of many people in Hai Duong, especially the damage to houses, crops, and livestock. Faced with this situation, social work activities have been further promoted to provide practical support to the people.

Up to now, Mrs. Pham Thi Inh (born in 1962) and her mother over 80 years old in Van An ward (Chi Linh city) no longer have to worry about living in a dilapidated house. Mrs. Inh is deaf and mute, unable to work, and lives with her mother. The life of the mother and daughter is very difficult, mainly depending on the social protection source of the State. Storm No. 3 completely blew off the roof of the mother and daughter's level 4 house. Due to economic difficulties and poor health, Mrs. Inh and her mother are almost unable to repair the roof.

“Upon receiving the information, we formed a team to go to Mrs. Inh’s house to survey and grasp the situation. Realizing that Mrs. Inh and her children’s situation was very difficult, without support, they would not have a house to live in. We encouraged them and at the same time connected with the local Fatherland Front to support Mrs. Inh and her children with 20 million VND to repair the house as soon as possible,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Khuyen, a labor, war invalids and social affairs officer of Van An ward.

Nam Sach is also one of the localities that suffered heavy damage from storm No. 3. Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Phuong, Head of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Nam Sach district, said that when storm No. 3 occurred, the district had issued an alarm to all establishments to reinforce, regardless of day or night. After the storm passed, labor, war invalids and social affairs officers from communes and towns in the district all joined with organizations to visit people's houses to survey the damage, with the spirit of supporting people as quickly as possible according to regulations.

“Labor, war invalids and social affairs officers in 19 communes and wards of Nam Sach district have all implemented policies for the disadvantaged. Therefore, in all circumstances, people are cared for and supported promptly, meeting their basic needs,” said Ms. Phuong.

In addition, the social work activities of individuals and organizations in Hai Duong have also shown positive results. As the President of the Women's Union of Hong Quang Commune (Thanh Mien), Ms. Dang Thi Nga has always actively participated in social work activities at the grassroots level in a part-time role. In order to encourage the disadvantaged in the area both spiritually and materially, Ms. Nga and the women's union members in the commune have regularly reviewed the circumstances of the poor, the disabled, and orphans. In addition, she has also actively participated in activities to review social protection beneficiaries and participated in the grassroots mediation team.

One of the typical activities that Ms. Nga and the women's union members have done is to always accompany orphans and children in difficult circumstances in the commune. Up to now, the Women's Union of Hong Quang commune has introduced the Women's Union of Thanh Mien district to connect with organizations and individuals to sponsor 9 orphans in the commune. At the same time, the Women's Union of the commune mobilized socialization and allocated funds to sponsor 7 orphans and children in difficult circumstances with support levels of 300,000-500,000 VND/month for each child.

“Not only do we support the children materially as above, we also regularly visit to monitor their health, spirit and learning situation. Through this, we can promptly share with them the difficulties that arise in life,” said Ms. Nga.
