In Prague, on May 27, the Czech Republic held a Festival of Ethnic Minorities with the theme "Prague - Heart of the Nation".
Vietnamese delegation attends Ethnic Minority Festival in Czech Republic
The event attracted more than 30 delegations representing ethnic minorities from 20 countries living in this Central European country.
Immediately after the parade from Prague City Hall through the old streets, the two central squares Staromestske and Wenceslas, the delegations brought to the Czech people and visitors the cultural specialties of each nation. The Vietnamese delegation made a strong impression at this year's festival with a large number of delegates attending and bringing vibrant performances imbued with national traditions such as the festival drum performance, Hue royal court dance, fan dance, etc. Visitors were especially excited to see the female dance team in traditional red ao dai performing folk dances and singing Vietnamese songs.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Dieu Linh, head of the organizing committee of the Vietnamese delegation, said that the Ethnic Minority Festival is an annual activity held in the Czech Republic. However, these activities have been suspended for the past 4 years due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, immediately after the event was held again, many ethnic minorities in the Czech Republic, especially the Vietnamese community, enthusiastically responded. Ms. Linh added that this year's festival is even more meaningful to the Vietnamese people because this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Vietnamese Czechs becoming an ethnic minority in the Czech Republic.
"Drum Festival" performance by Vietnamese troupe
The Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic is increasingly integrating deeply into local social life and has made many contributions not only to Vietnam but also to its “second homeland”, as well as contributing to promoting Czech-Vietnam relations. In addition to promoting the integration process, the community also always pays attention to maintaining and preserving traditional cultural values and the Festival of Ethnic Minorities in the Czech Republic is an opportunity for the Vietnamese community to promote cultural beauty to Czech friends and tourists.
This year's festival takes place from May 25-28, including music and dance performances, ethnic costume performances, and exhibitions of unique handicrafts from each ethnic group.
