Open door to grade 10 of private high school in Hai Duong city

In less than 1.5 months, the entrance exam for grade 10 high school in Hai Duong will begin. This is always a stressful exam because the number of candidates registering is large while the quota for public schools is limited.

A representative of the Hai Duong City Department of Education and Training said that in the 2023-2024 school year, the entire city will have more than 5,200 ninth grade students, an increase of about 240 students compared to the previous school year.

In the 2023-2024 school year, 4 public high schools, including Hong Quang, Nguyen Du, Nguyen Van Cu and Nguyen Trai specialized schools, were assigned about 1,900 enrollment targets. Basically, the enrollment targets for these 4 schools this year may not change much. Thus, there will be about 3,300 9th grade students in Hai Duong city who will not be admitted to public high schools.

However, in Hai Duong City, this year's exam is "easier" than in previous school years because the number of 9th graders has only increased slightly while there are 2 new private high schools in Hai Duong City. Therefore, parents should not worry too much because the door to public schools is narrow but the door to private schools is "wide open".

The two newly established private high schools in Hai Duong City are Marie Curie II and Nam Hai Duong Primary, Secondary and High School (Hai Duong City). Thus, the entire city will have 8 private high schools, meeting the large number of 9th grade students who are not admitted to public schools.

In the 2024-2025 school year, the school proposed to enroll 405 students in grade 10. The school has a source of 22 teachers ready to teach. Modern facilities and equipment will meet the learning needs of students. In addition, Marie Curie Secondary and High School (campus 1) can enroll 720 students in grade 10.

The representative of the leadership of Nam Hai Duong Primary, Secondary and High School said that the school can also enroll 450 students in grade 10 for the 2024-2025 school year. The school has facilities, equipment and enough teachers.

In the 2023-2024 school year, 6 private high schools in Hai Duong City were assigned 2,610 enrollment targets for grade 10. Thus, this year, it is estimated that 8 private high schools alone can accommodate about 3,400 grade 9 students. Except for a few disabled students and students from neighboring districts admitted to public schools in Hai Duong City, the remaining grade 9 students can attend regular education or vocational schools... The Hai Duong City Vocational Education - Continuing Education Center, the Provincial Center for Continuing Education - Foreign Languages, Information Technology, and Hai Duong College of Culture, Arts and Tourism can also accommodate about 700 students.

The effectiveness of the policy of socializing education

From 2023 to present, many educational projects have been invested in the province, including Hai Duong city, showing positive effects from the policy of encouraging socialization of education of Hai Duong province.

According to the Department of Education and Training, based on the population size of Hai Duong City in the following years, which tends to increase, the demand for studying at private high schools is very large, including students from districts bordering Hai Duong City such as Cam Giang, Gia Loc, Nam Sach, Thanh Ha...

In fact, in the period 2010-2020, the whole province only developed 2 private high schools: Chu Van An High School and Sao Do High School (Hai Duong City). By 2022, the whole province will have 15 private high schools, of which Hai Duong City has 6 schools.

But from the end of 2023 until now, Hai Duong has developed 3 more private high schools, including: Marie Curie II Secondary and High School in Thanh Binh Ward, Nam Hai Duong Primary, Secondary and High School in Lien Hong Commune (in Hai Duong City); Hung Phat Primary, Secondary and High School (in La A area, Cam Giang town, Cam Giang). In addition, the Provincial People's Committee is considering establishing 2 more private high schools in Chi Linh City.

This result is due to the province's attention and creation of favorable mechanisms to attract investment in the education and training sector. Hai Duong province has preferential land policies for socialized investment projects in the fields of education, vocational training, health care, culture, sports and environment in urban areas of the province.

Mr. Do Duy Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, said that the mechanisms and policies being implemented by the province will facilitate investors and open up opportunities for private schools; in line with the policies of the Central Government, the province and the sector in encouraging the socialization of education, opening private schools in densely populated areas, urban areas, industrial parks, meeting the needs of investment in educational facilities, the learning needs of the people, reducing the burden on public schools in the spirit of Resolution No. 35/NQ-CP dated June 4, 2019 of the Government on enhancing the mobilization of social resources for investment in education and training development in the 2019-2025 period.

It is known that the Department of Education and Training has completed the survey and assessment of private high schools and continuing education sectors to serve as a basis for assigning enrollment targets. It is expected that in May 2024, enrollment targets for grade 10 of each unit will be available.
