Quyen Linh and Hoai Linh "confront" on the big screen

Getting Rich with Ghosts (directed by Trung Lun) and Hai Muoi (directed by Meritorious Artist Vu Thanh Vinh) are two films that are receiving a lot of attention when they are released on the occasion of September 2. Notably, these are two projects that mark the return to cinema of Quyen Linh and Hoai Linh after many years of absence from the big screen.

The common point of Hai Muoi and Getting Rich with Ghosts is that they both exploit the theme of family and father-son love. This is what makes both of them predicted to create a dramatic race after a series of quiet days of Vietnamese films.

Exploiting the theme of fatherly love

After 20 years, Quyen Linh returns to cinema with the main role in Hai Muoi. In the film, the actor plays a hard-working salt seller who raises his daughter alone.

Quyen Linh revealed that he had to lose more than 20kg to play the role of a salt worker with a difficult life, raising a child alone. Playing the role of a man raising a daughter alone, Quyen Linh said he brought his real-life emotions into the film. "Sacrificing everything for my child, as long as she studies well and is successful. That is my real-life feelings, that made me decide to accept the script," he shared.

Similar to Hai Muoi, the film Getting Rich with Ghosts also explores the theme of family affection, but will have more comedy and spiritual elements. In the film, Meritorious Artist Hoai Linh plays the role of a priest who works in the funeral business, always worried about his son named Lanh (Tuan Tran).

The producer representative said Hoai Linh was the top choice for the role because of his dedication and ability to act with passion.

"The most important factor is still expertise, we respect the director's decision. On set, Hoai Linh immersed himself in his role. He got into the role very quickly, it felt like he had been doing the character's work for a long time. No matter what, I still believe Hoai Linh was the right choice for the role," the film producer affirmed.

In general, Hai Muoi by Quyen Linh and Getting Rich with Ghosts by Hoai Linh both focus on exploiting family relationships, however the two works differ in content and genre.

At the press conference announcing Hai Muoi, when asked about confronting Hoai Linh, Quyen Linh affirmed that "he just found out that his movie was released at the same time as the movie starring Hoai Linh". The male MC said that he only fulfilled his role as an actor and did not interfere in other matters.

"How to release a film and what film it clashes with is the producer's plan. In art, it's normal for ideas to overlap, the problem is how you express them. The same film, both about father-son love, certainly the way the characters express their feelings in the two films must be different.",Quyen Linh said.

The male MC also said that the important thing is that the two films are not made the same, and have no intention of competing.

"Hoai Linh and I don't know how the other person acts. That creates diversity and richness in cinema. The audience watches and feels for themselves," Quyen Linh added.

About Getting Rich with Ghosts,Director Trung Lun said that it takes a long time to prepare a movie, so it was fate that it was released at the same time.

"Both male actors have different acting styles and the scripts of the two films are not completely the same. While one side is emotional, "Getting Rich with Ghosts" has a humorous color.

It is normal for art to have duplicate themes, audiences will have more choices. But I believe that Getting Rich with Ghosts will have its own unique quality,” the director affirmed.

In terms of commercial factors, works with Hoai Linh's participation are showing more potential thanks to the comedy - spiritual genre that is easy to approach the audience, especially during the holidays. However, Hoai Linh is still a controversial name after some unnecessary noise from previous years. His return has not yet received the support of most audiences.

Meanwhile, Quyen Linh is still a name loved by many audiences because of his simple and friendly personality. His return to the screen after 20 years of volunteering will certainly be loved and supported by many audiences.

Getting Rich with Ghosts and Hai Muoi will both start showing nationwide from August 30 (September 2nd holiday).
