Golden Globe 2024 has two new categories

For the first time in decades, the Golden Globe Awards will be broadcast live on CBS on January 7, from 4-11 p.m. (8 a.m. January 8 Vietnam time), hosted by comedian Jo Koy.

The change means the Golden Globes are ending their long-standing partnership with NBC, after the show faced widespread criticism and boycotts over allegations of racism, as well as corruption within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).

The Golden Globes were later sold to another company. Dick Clark Productions is now the owner and producer of the awards.

Two new categories of Golden Globes

The 2024 Golden Globes introduced two new categories: one for Film Achievement and Box Office Revenue, and the other for Best Stand-Up Comedy Performance on Television.

The Film and Box Office Achievement Awards recognize the highest-grossing or most-watched films of the year that have received widespread support from global audiences and offer exceptional creative content.

According to CBS, it appears thatBarbieis sure to win in this category, as the film has been both critically acclaimed and has grossed $1.4 billion at the box office, making it one of the 15 most successful films of all time in the US and globally.

Oppenheimeralso close behind, ranking 3rd on the list, followed byThe Super Mario Bros. Movie.

There are also strong candidates such asSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,John Wick: Chapter 4,Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1andTaylor Swift: The Eras Tour.

Best Movie

Unlike the Oscars coming up in March, the Golden Globes divide the Best Picture nominees into two categories: Drama and Musical or Comedy.

This means thatOppenheimerandBarbiewill have an interesting competition and be the center of attention of the awards night, similar to how these two films have competed at the box office in recent times.

Barbieby Greta Gerwig in Musical or Comedy andOppenheimerChristopher Nolan's The Last Jedi and The Last Jedi in Drama are the two films that dominate the 2024 Golden Globe nominations, with nine nominations each.Barbieand 8 nominations forOppenheimer.
