The 2023 Golden Globe organizers continuously advertised on television: "Hollywood's biggest party is back!", before the awards night.
The awards ceremony will take place on the morning of January 11 (Hanoi time) in Los Angeles, broadcast live after two years of being cut off due to sideline noise. For nearly 80 years, the event has been like a bell announcing that the American film awards season is about to enter its most important phase. Taking place every early January, the Golden Globes are nicknamed "The Drunk Uncle", where Hollywood stars meet to party to celebrate the new year.

According to BBC, this year's organizers are trying to restore the status of the Golden Globes brand.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) - the organizer - made many decisions to erase the past scandals. The organization actively reformed internally, increasing the total number of black members to 10%. They invited African-American comedian Jerrod Carmichael to host the show, replacing previous white artists such as Ricky Gervais, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. The Cecil B. DeMille Award - the program's honorary award - was also given to Eddie Murphy, one of the most famous black characters in the history of cinema.
The individuals and works nominated this year are highly regarded in terms of expertise. The two films The Banshees of Inisherin and Everything Everywhere All At Once lead the nominations. Following are popular projects such as Babylon, The Fabelmans... There is not much controversy about the names honored, except for the case of Tom Cruise not appearing in the best actor category. According to USA Today, some opinions say that the HFPA did not want to give him a nomination after his action of returning the trophy. However, Brendan Fraser - who has repeatedly criticized the organization - still has a nomination this year.
In early January, host Ricky Gervais evoked the Golden Globes' past influence: "It used to be one of the most fun events of the awards season. The tables were full of alcoholic beverages, more like a party than a formal awards night."
The BBC commented that the Golden Globes are also a springboard for many young stars in Hollywood. Rachel Zegler, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ariana DeBose, Emma Corrin, Richard Madden, Awkwafina and Taron Egerton have built solid careers after winning. This year, some new names such as Diego Calva and Barry Keoghan are expected in the big categories.
However, BBC journalist Steven McIntosh said the biggest question ahead of the awards night is whether Hollywood stars are ready to return to the red carpet. A small group of A-list stars have confirmed their attendance. Ana de Armas - nominated for best actress for her role as Marilyn Monroe in Blonde - is certain to attend. Jamie Lee Curtis is nominated for best supporting actress for Everything Everywhere All At Once. Elvis's leading man - Austin Butler - has also agreed to attend after being nominated. Other names confirmed include Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, Niecy Nash-Betts, Ana Gasteyer, Billy Porter, Colman Domingo, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Natasha Lyonne, Nicole Byer, Tracy Morgan and the RRR crew from India.
Many other stars are currently leaving the possibility of attending open. Among them, Daniel Craig, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie... are those who are likely to win the award but have not spoken out. Brendan Fraser - nominated for best actor - is definitely not attending. The Whale actor once accused a member of the organizing committee of sexually harassing him. Tom Cruise is also unlikely to appear after announcing that he will return three Golden Globe trophies in 2021.

Sources told Vanity Fair that much of Hollywood is hoping the Golden Globes brand can recover from the scandal. NBC praised the HFPA’s recent efforts to reform its internal structure. The return of big names this year is also a recognition of these changes.
The Golden Globes, founded by the HFPA in 1944, are the third most watched awards in the United States, after the Oscars and the Grammys. The judges are members of the HFPA, from newspapers in about 55 countries. In recent years, the awards have been boycotted due to the lack of black judges and suspicions of award-buying.
