Egyptian media reported on February 25 that Qatar and Egypt will hold two rounds of negotiations on a ceasefire agreement between the Hamas Islamist movement and Israel in the Gaza Strip.
Al-Qahera News quoted an unnamed Egyptian official as saying that negotiations are expected to take place next week in Doha and Cairo to try to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. The agreement is expected to include an end to the conflict, the release of Israeli hostages, the release of Palestinian prisoners and increased humanitarian aid to Gaza.
In related news, the Israeli Cabinet has decided to send a delegation to the Qatari capital Doha to continue discussions on a ceasefire in Gaza. The delegation will consist of four officials, responsible for discussing the technical aspects of the humanitarian issue in the agreement.
The Israeli cabinet made the decision after ministers received positive information from discussions mediated by the US, Qatar and Egypt in Paris. Israeli officials assessed that the discussions were constructive and that the parties had reached a preliminary framework agreement. However, the Hamas movement did not confirm the information.
