Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long directed the Ministry of Education and Training to consider regulations on the time to announce the early exam plan to create favorable conditions for schools and students.
The Government Office has just issued Document No. 8347/VPCP-KGVX conveying the opinion of Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long on handling press information reflecting on the draft Regulations on Secondary and High School Admissions.
Recently, the press has reported information related to the draft Regulations on Secondary and High School Admissions.
According to feedback, the draft Regulations on Secondary and High School Admissions proposes that the 10th grade exam will include 3 subjects including math, literature and a third subject or a combined exam selected by the Department of Education and Training, the higher education institution with the high school and announced before March 31 every year.
On forums, many parents agree with the plan to have 3 subjects for 10th grade high school entrance exams, however, they are concerned and worried, thinking that the "secret" 3rd subject being announced so close to the exam is very hasty.
Parents think that the Ministry of Education and Training should adjust the time to announce exam subjects earlier so that students can review.
In response to the above information, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long directed the Ministry of Education and Training to carefully review, research, and absorb public opinions to complete and promulgate the Regulations on Secondary and High School Admissions under its authority, including considering the time of announcement for early exams to create favorable conditions for schools and students, especially in proactively planning appropriate and effective teaching, learning, and review.
2025 is the first year of implementing 10th grade enrollment according to the 2018 General Education Program. The Ministry of Education and Training has widely consulted society on the draft Circular promulgating the Regulations on enrollment in junior high school and high school.
One of the notable contents in this draft Regulation is that the third subject in the entrance exam method must be changed over the years to achieve the goal of comprehensive education.
Besides opinions agreeing with the draft plan, many opinions said that changing the third exam subject every year and not announcing it until March 31st makes schools and students passive, increasing the pressure to study in many subjects.
On October 31, on the sidelines of the conference summarizing the organization of the high school graduation exam for the period 2020-2024 and preparing for the exam from 2025, taking place in Ho Chi Minh City, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong said that the spirit of the 10th grade entrance exam plan is to include math, literature and a third exam subject selected by the departments from the remaining subjects with scores, with the principle of changing annually. Changing the third exam subject is to avoid biased learning and rote learning.
