Phu Yen is rich and beautiful. The glorious past of Vung Ro is fueling the present towards a bright future.

Vung Ro today has all the conditions to go far.

60 years ago, in the midst of the extremely fierce resistance war against the US to save the country, lacking weapons, the leaders of Zone 5 and the Phu Yen Provincial Party Committee received weapons from the central government by sea. On November 28, 1964, the first No. 41 ship, captained by comrade Ho Dac Thanh, a son of Phu Yen, safely docked at Vung Ro. The next two consecutive trips, also commanded by captain Ho Dac Thanh, safely docked.

Soldiers and civilians, boats and wharves, all shared the same thought of “determined to die for the Fatherland, determined to live”. In just a short period of time from November 28, 1964 to February 15, 1965, Vung Ro wharf received 4 ships carrying nearly 300 tons of weapons (including the fourth ship, ship 143, which was exposed on February 16, 1965). The Vung Ro incident has been around for 60 years and still exists, retaining its value as an immortal heroic epic, becoming an essential part of the legend of the Ho Chi Minh trail at sea.

Vung Ro today has all the conditions to develop and reach out to the world by sea, becoming a gateway connecting goods with the Central Highlands provinces. Our wish, those who fought to protect ships and ports 60 years ago, is that Vung Ro relic needs to be given proper attention and investment, worthy of its stature to show gratitude and honor history, while promoting its value for economic and tourism development.

Hopefully, the Vung Ro relic - Ship Without Number will soon be ranked as a special national historical relic, along with the complex of scenic relics of Bai Mon - Mui Dien, Da Bia - Deo Ca, Hon Nua, Bai Tien... will be a red address for traditional education for today's and future generations, and at the same time an attractive destination for tourists.

Proud of tradition, building a developed homeland

Vung Ro and the legendary No-numbered ships will forever be the pride of the army and people of Phu Yen, including the youth of the province. Grateful and proud of the heroic tradition of our fathers and brothers who created the miracle of the Ho Chi Minh trail at sea, of those who opened and carried out the task of transporting weapons from the rear to the front line on the legendary route on the East Sea, in recent times, the youth of the whole province have not been afraid of difficulties and hardships, carrying out many projects, youth work, volunteering to participate in socio-economic development and national defense.

Youth Unions and associations at all levels regularly organize traditional education activities for young people such as: marching to the source at the national historical site of Vung Ro; listening to historical witnesses tell stories and visiting and giving gifts to officers and soldiers participating in transporting weapons and ammunition at Vung Ro wharf who are living in the province...

Vung Ro today has become an area with many potentials and advantages to contribute significantly to the construction and development of the homeland and country, especially opening up many economic development opportunities for the province.

This is the driving force that urges each member and youth to constantly cultivate and practice revolutionary ethics, strive to study, work, produce, and ignite the spirit of volunteering for community life, joining hands to contribute to bringing the homeland and country firmly into a new era, an era of national growth.

Vung Ro relic is a priceless asset that today's generation needs to preserve and promote.

Vung Ro has an extremely favorable location. From a geo-military or geo-economic perspective, it is very important, both essential and favorable for development.

Vung Ro Bay is one of the two beautiful and famous bays of Phu Yen in the top of the most beautiful bays in Vietnam and the world. Vung Ro is surrounded on three sides by majestic mountains, with Hon Nua Island in front, making the bay calmer and enhancing the landscape value.

It is even more interesting to place Vung Ro in the overall area, combined with Da Bia Mountain, Bai Mon - Mui Dien, all of which are national landmarks, creating a majestic natural picture. Along with that, Vung Ro carries a very unique historical and cultural heritage, becoming an extremely valuable and characteristic resource for tourism development, something that not every locality has.

Vung Ro converges many values for tourism development, both historical and cultural values and natural landscape values, suitable for developing eco-tourism, cultural tourism, and historical research.

As a child born and raised in Hoa Xuan, we are very proud of the heroic revolutionary tradition of our ancestors and our heroic homeland, Hoa Xuan. The legend of Vung Ro - the ship without a number further deepens the heroic and indomitable tradition of the army and people of Phu Yen.

Dong Hoa town is developing strongly day by day, Hoa Xuan Nam commune is proud to have Vung Ro relic, which has been preserved and upgraded; at the same time, this land is also attracting many large-scale investment projects, including tourism projects.

With this strong shift, in the near future, Vung Ro relic will shine, people of Hoa Hiep Nam commune will have more jobs, stable income, and strive to get rich.

The heroic past has been and is fueling the present towards the future. We always respectfully pay tribute to our ancestors, and strive to build our homeland, the land known as the “steel rampart at the foot of the Ca Pass”, to develop more and more.

Cultural and historical tourist attractions attract tourists

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huynh Cam, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City

During my recent trip to Phu Yen, I had the opportunity to visit the Vung Ro relic site. Here, I heard about the fighting process of soldiers in the journey to transport our army's weapons by very special routes and methods: Ships Without Numbers - Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea! The ships were designed, assigned many numbers and nationalities, to avoid being detected by the enemy and could be ready to sacrifice at any time. The recorded history shows the creativity and bravery of the Vietnamese army and people in the process of fighting and defending the Fatherland.

I came to offer incense and attend the flower lantern releasing ceremony at the wharf with a feeling of great pride in the heroic fighting of previous generations. I hope that the authorities will continue to preserve, restore and promote the value of the relic; at the same time, they can build and introduce a model of the No-number ship so that visitors can better understand the history and significance of this relic. This will be an attractive historical tourist destination, contributing to honoring the patriotic tradition of the Vietnamese people.
