After nearly 2 years of working at the Prison Management Team of the Hai Duong Provincial Police Detention Center, female prison officer, Captain Nguyen Thi Phuong Hanh, is known as a dedicated person who has excellently completed the task of managing and educating female prisoners.
In 2010, Captain Nguyen Thi Phuong Hanh (born in 1990) worked at the Provincial Police Detention Center. In November 2022, she took on the task of the Prison Management Team, in charge of the female prisoner detention area. Since taking on the task, the area Captain Phuong Hanh is in charge of has had a much larger number of prisoners than before. Not only that, the detainees are of many different types such as those sentenced to death, minors, sick, HIV-infected. Along with that, each criminal has a different personality, psychology, sentence, etc.
Captain Phuong Hanh said that in order to do a good job of managing, educating, and reforming prisoners, when the accused and defendants enter the prison, she always spends time researching and understanding each person's personal background, especially their family circumstances, occupation, personality, what crime they committed, and the cause of the crime in order to have appropriate measures. Among the prisoners, those sentenced to death cause many difficulties in managing and educating them. They have the mindset and mentality that they are about to die, have nothing left to lose, so they sometimes show signs of defiance, indifference, and opposition.
Along with that, because there are many female prisoners who are minors, it requires prison officers to have their own management and education methods. Captain Phuong Hanh said that at the end of 2023, her area received NTT (born in 2008) for committing a drug-related crime. Her parents were divorced, she lived with her mother, but because her mother was busy and did not closely supervise her, she gathered with a group of bad friends to use drugs. In the first days of entering the camp, T. had an indifferent attitude, did not follow the rules well, caused trouble with her cellmates, and was often agitated. "For these cases, we often encourage, comfort, analyze right and wrong, help them understand and share the difficulties and hardships of their parents. After that, T. has improved a lot, and is now following the camp's rules well," Captain Phuong Hanh shared.
Although the family's conditions are still difficult when her husband also works in the industry, has 2 small children, and has high work pressure, but with the encouragement and help of everyone, Captain Phuong Hanh always proactively arranges to fulfill the assigned tasks and the role of a woman in the family. Along with that, with the responsibility of being the President of the Women's Association of the Provincial Police Detention Camp, Captain Phuong Hanh has organized many activities to build and develop the movement, taking care of the lives of women.
Lieutenant Colonel Tran Dinh Huong, Deputy Warden of the Provincial Police Detention Center, said: “Captain Phuong Hanh always completes his tasks excellently. The highlight is that Captain Phuong Hanh is always determined but flexible, has a good psychological impact to influence and educate prisoners.”
With the achievements, in 2023, Captain Nguyen Thi Phuong Hanh was awarded a certificate of merit by the Provincial Police Director for her outstanding achievements in work and received many other forms of rewards.
