As of June 17, Hai Duong farmers had harvested more than 47,700 hectares of winter-spring rice, reaching nearly 90% of the province's total area, equivalent to the same period last year.
Ninh Giang, Thanh Mien, Kim Thanh, Gia Loc, and Nam Sach districts have harvested 90% or more of their rice acreage. The remaining localities have harvested over 80% of their acreage. It is expected that by June 20, the localities will basically finish harvesting the winter-spring rice crop.
The Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection recommends that farmers take advantage of favorable weather to harvest rice. At the same time, mobilize high-capacity tillage machines to plow the soil as soon as the rice is harvested, bury the straw cages, and combine with the use of products that quickly decompose straw to avoid organic poisoning of the winter-spring rice after transplanting. The planting of winter-spring rice must follow the correct rice structure, rice varieties and the province's crop calendar. Take the initiative to prevent flooding at the beginning of the season when heavy rain occurs.
This year's winter-spring crop, the weather was basically favorable, so the rice grew and developed well, with few pests and diseases. The average rice yield in Hai Duong province reached 67.1 quintals/ha, an increase of nearly 2 quintals/ha compared to the same period last year.
