Cao Bang has just received a certificate of recognition as UNESCO Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark after the first re-evaluation.
On the evening of September 30, the People's Committee of Cao Bang province held the opening ceremony of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Week 2023; receiving the certificate of recognition of the title of Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark after the first re-evaluation.
Cao Bang Culture, Sports and Tourism Week 2023 takes place from September 27 to October 3, including the following activities: The 28th Fine Arts Exhibition of the Northwest-Viet Bac Region 3; Intangible Cultural Heritage performance; paragliding performance "Flying over the Mountains and Rivers"; displaying and introducing OCOP products, local specialties and demonstrating the preparation of dishes; folk dance performances with the participation of 3,000 people at Kim Dong walking street and a number of local and expanded sports competitions.
In his opening speech, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Trinh Truong Huy affirmed that the Cao Bang Culture, Sports and Tourism Week 2023 is an opportunity to review and be proud of the land and people of Cao Bang with 524 years of history of formation and development, 73 years of Cao Bang Liberation Day.
At the same time, it is an opportunity to promote and publicize geological values, heritage, natural landscapes, history and culture to domestic and international friends and tourists; enhance exchanges and seek cooperation opportunities, attract investment resources, and contribute to building Cao Bang homeland to develop sustainably and prosperously.
In 2018, the UNESCO Executive Board passed a resolution recognizing Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark as a Global Geopark.
Since 2018, Cao Bang has always actively participated in activities of the geopark network and international cooperation.
The province has completed investment in construction and put into operation 4 tourist routes belonging to the Global Geopark; preserved and promoted the values of geological heritage, indigenous cultural knowledge; protected the environment and landscape according to the criteria and recommendations of UNESCO experts.
Thereby, contributing to ensuring harmony between the goals of economic development and the preservation and promotion of heritage and national cultural identity.
At the 2nd meeting, the 7th session of the UNESCO Global Geopark Council held in December 2022 officially approved and granted the certificate of UNESCO Global Geopark title Non Nuoc Cao Bang after the re-evaluation period.
On this occasion, Ms. Tran Lan Huong, Head of the Natural Sciences Department, UNESCO Office in Vietnam, on behalf of UNESCO, awarded the certificate of UNESCO Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark after the first re-evaluation to Cao Bang province.
