“Small work, big meaning”

This new school year, Hoang Manh Hien, a 4G student at Nam Dong Primary School (Hai Duong City), no longer has to walk more than 1 km from home to school like before because he was given a bicycle by soldiers at the Hai Duong City Military Command. Hien's family is poor, his mother is sick and in dire need of help.

Knowing this situation, the Hai Duong City Military Command has allocated funds from the “Green House” model combined with mobilizing social resources to help Hien. Five other students from Nam Dong Primary School and Ai Quoc Primary School with difficult circumstances were also given bicycles on this occasion. Each bicycle is worth 1.5 million VND. The “Green House” model was deployed by the Hai Duong City Military Command in March 2024. This is also the first district-level unit of the Provincial Military Command to deploy this model.

The practice of sorting and putting plastic bottles and cans into the "Green House" is gradually forming a habit, raising awareness of environmental protection among each officer and soldier. After that, the waste is sorted, collected and sold to raise funds to support families with preferential policies and children in difficult circumstances in the area...

Lieutenant Colonel Truong Minh Nam, Political Commissar of the Hai Duong City Military Command, said: "Although newly deployed, the "Green House" model has practical significance, contributing to building a regular, green, clean, and beautiful military barracks."

Coming to the barracks of the Provincial Military Command, it is easy to see the "Green House" model with the friendly, easy-to-remember message "Please give me your trash!". Two years ago, the Women's Union coordinated with the agency's Youth Union to deploy this model. With the motto "small work, great meaning", the model has shown practical effectiveness, creating a source of funding for the Association and Youth Union to organize social security activities. Currently, the "Green House" model is continuing to be deployed and replicated in the Military Commands of districts, towns and cities.

Lieutenant Colonel, professional soldier Dang Thi Hue, President of the Women's Union of the Provincial Military Command said: "Starting from the idea of ​​protecting the environment from the smallest actions, we have deployed the model and received enthusiastic support from officers and soldiers. The model contributes to visual propaganda and education on environmental protection, thanks to which the amount of plastic waste in the unit has significantly reduced."

Environmental protection

According to the Provincial Military Command, the “Green House” model is part of a series of activities under the program “Accompanying localities to preserve and protect the green, clean and beautiful environment” of the provincial armed forces. In addition, agencies and units of the Provincial Military Command have many regular and systematic tasks in environmental protection such as cleaning and dredging canals and ditches, planting trees on roads, cleaning village cultural houses, residential areas, martyrs’ cemeteries, etc.

According to the Provincial Military Command, the fund source of the model combining contribution and savings funds "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style" is making an important contribution to implementing meaningful programs such as "Warm comradeship, joining hands to nurture green shoots", "Godmother", "Volunteer Saturday"...

Over the past 5 years, agencies and units in the provincial armed forces have given away more than 300 gifts, sponsored 6 children in especially difficult circumstances (each child receives 500,000 VND/month), and helped 24 families in difficult circumstances in the province...

Colonel Nguyen Trong Hung, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Hai Duong Provincial Military Command, said: "Human values ​​are reflected in small actions, such as environmental protection awareness and collecting garbage to raise funds for charity. When each "Green House" is multiplied, it means that more children and households in difficult circumstances will be helped and supported to go to school."
