If you are wondering why your electronic devices break down so quickly, pay attention to the habits below.
1. Use metal to clean the charging port
The charging port is quite deep and hard, making it quite difficult to clean, so some people will use metal objects such as pins, knives or paper clips to clean it more easily. However, this can scratch the phone's charging port and even damage it.
One of the two best ways to clean a charging port is to use a toothpick small enough to fit inside the port and clean all the corners. The second option is to use an air compressor that can blow out dust and debris. Be careful not to blow into the port with your mouth, as your breath contains water particles that can damage the charging port.
2. Leave your phone in the sun
Leaving your phone outside the window while charging is a habit of many people. However, this will unintentionally make your phone take longer because exposure to sunlight slows down the charging process. Not only that, the screen will absorb heat very quickly and start flickering. In the worst case, your phone can overheat and shut down to protect itself.
3. Let the battery reach 0% before charging.
The best battery life percentage is between 20%-80%. You don't want to let your phone go down to 0% before charging it, and charging your phone to more than 80% can cause the battery to swell. The ideal limit is to charge it to 50%, so half of the lithium ions are in the lithium cobalt oxide layer and the other half are in the graphite layer.
But if this bothers you because you have to charge the battery so many times, then try charging it to the maximum 80%.
4. Frequently getting your phone wet
For phones that are not waterproof, dropping them in water will obviously damage them. However, even if your phone is effectively waterproof, getting it wet for no reason can be extremely dangerous.
Water resistance may work if your phone gets caught in the rain or falls into water for a short period of time, but if it's submerged in water for more than 30 minutes, it's hard to guarantee that your phone won't be damaged.
5. Downloading apps from unverified stores
For many reasons, many of us are quite “easy” in downloading “trial” free software to our phones. However, this carries many risks if the software contains malicious viruses. That is why you should follow the official app stores that have ratings and reviews for all applications.
Also, make sure your antivirus program is on to detect any malware trying to get into your device.
6. Let the computer keyboard get dirty
No matter what type of computer you use, over time, dust, hair, and debris will get stuck in your keyboard. Even crumbs and food particles can attract some insects and animals to "nest" in your computer.
Make sure you keep dust and debris from entering your computer as much as possible. Also, clean your work area and computer regularly.
7. Bringing electronics into the bathroom
Taking your phone into the bathroom is not only unhealthy, it can also be dangerous for your phone and yourself. When you get up from the toilet, your phone can slip out of your hand and fall into the water. If you leave your phone next to you while you shower, just a small mistake can cause the phone and charger to fall into the sink, causing a fatal electric shock.
8. Charge your phone overnight
Cell phone manufacturers, like Apple, advise that leaving your phone charging overnight is bad for you. That’s because your phone will stop charging after it reaches 100%, and once it reaches 99%, it will need to work twice as hard to charge again. Also, as mentioned above, battery life is best preserved if you charge your phone to 80%, which obviously won’t happen if you leave it plugged in overnight.
9. Raise the laptop by the screen
Lifting a laptop by the “screen” is a bad idea and can damage your computer. Applying too much force to the hinges can cause damage to the entire screen, causing the hinges to break.
The best way to lift your laptop is to grasp it with both hands from each side and gently lower it onto a flat surface. Keep in mind that leaving your laptop on uneven surfaces can cause it to bend.
10. Use household cleaning products to clean the screen
Never even think about using window cleaner or any other household cleaner to clean your computer screen. The chemicals in them, especially ammonia, are too harsh for screens.
In case you don’t have a dedicated cleaner and you need to clean your screen immediately, use a piece of cloth and some plain water, instead of other cleaning agents. However, you should not put too much pressure on the screen as it can cause dead pixels. In particular, do not use paper towels under any circumstances as they will scratch your screen.
