Many US workers in tech and healthcare intend to find new jobs, despite high salaries

Sharing more about the study, Lexi Clarke, Payscale's human resources director, said that the unstable economy and stressful work environment are the reasons why many people want to change jobs.

"Many managers fear being affected by the storm of high-level layoffs in the technology industry, so they decide to find new jobs or change careers," Lexi said.

He also said that during the time the company cut low-level staff, these managers had to work with limited manpower, continuously work overtime and increase their workload, causing stress and overwork.

Lexi also emphasizes that this is true for the healthcare industry, which is already famous for its long working hours.

To solve the problem of senior staff wanting to quit their jobs, experts advise businesses to ensure appropriate salary and benefits.

As for workers, they can take advantage of salary transparency data, now required in some US states, to find higher-paying jobs. According to Payscale, the average US salary increased 5.4% year-over-year through October 2023. Employees tend to receive higher salaries when they join a new company.

Finally, Lexi says the trend of job losses could ease in the new year, as employers budget for an average 3.8% increase in earnings next year. The data also shows that the gap between wage growth and inflation is narrowing, but it won’t be fully closed until the end of 2024.
