Demand for part-time jobs continues to increase near Tet

Information from the Hanoi Job Exchange shows that over the past month, the demand for seasonal and part-time workers has increased sharply.

At some recent mobile job fairs held at some colleges and universities, many part-time job vacancies were recorded. Hoang Linh, a final-year student at the Women's Academy, said: "I want to find a part-time job at a supermarket to both gain experience and earn income to cover my final semester's tuition."

Meanwhile, businesses coming to job fairs hope to recruit many workers to serve their operations at the end of the year, especially in the fields of Retail and Service Business, Hotels - Restaurants. Ms. Pham Thi Khanh Ly, a recruiter at Takahiro Joint Stock Company, said: "Currently, Takahiro Company is recruiting about 100 part-time and full-time employees for the positions of Receptionist, Cashier, Waiter, Bartender, Waitress, Kitchen Assistant. The salary for these positions is from 8 - 10 million VND/month, working full-time; 27,000 - 37,000 VND/hour working part-time".

Students who study and work part-time will have income to pay tuition and cover living expenses. According to Mr. Tran Duc Hai, a specialist from the Student Affairs Department - Vietnam Women's Academy, when students work part-time, they will have the opportunity to approach corporate culture; apply theoretical knowledge into practice and gain experience for future employment. This is an opportunity for students to work at enterprises after graduation; find their own output through the Academy's career connection and job guidance activities.

According to Mr. Vu Quang Thanh, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Employment Service Center, the recruitment demand of enterprises in Hanoi is currently increasing in both full-time and part-time segments, focusing on a number of industries such as: trade - services, processing and manufacturing industry, real estate, finance - banking, etc.

In particular, the demand for seasonal and part-time workers is increasing rapidly, in order to prepare for businesses to welcome many holidays and Tet at the end of the year such as Christmas, New Year, and Lunar New Year.

In December, in addition to daily job fairs, the Center plans to coordinate with the Capital Command to organize a specialized job fair for demobilized soldiers before returning to their localities.

"Based on the recruitment needs of businesses and job search trends of employees, the unit will continue to organize job fairs, especially part-time jobs, on the occasion of Lunar New Year 2024," said Mr. Vu Quang Thanh.

To increase the effectiveness of connecting the labor market at the end of the year, the Hanoi Employment Service Center coordinated with a number of colleges and universities in the area to organize the "My CV" (Recruitment Profile) contest to guide final year students on how to prepare a job application, including highlights on abilities and skills for successful job interviews. In addition, through the contest, it also guides final year students to equip themselves with soft skills before graduation," commented Mr. Vu Quang Thanh.

Regarding the labor and employment situation in the area, a representative of the Hanoi Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said that in November 2023, the city created jobs for more than 14,000 workers. Of which, over 2,800 workers were created jobs from the city's budget entrusted through the Social Policy Bank, with an amount of VND 164.6 billion; 1,660 workers were hired after being interviewed at job fairs and sessions through the Employment Service Center.

9,600 workers have jobs through labor export, job supply by enterprises and other forms.

Also in November 2023, the Hanoi Employment Service Center organized 23 job fairs with 720 participating units and businesses. The total number of recruitment and enrollment needs was 12,805 people, the number of workers recruited at the session was more than 4,900 people.

Mr. Nguyen Tay Nam, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, said: "In the coming time, the city will continue to synchronously and effectively implement policies, programs and projects to solve employment, support domestic job creation, and send workers to work abroad under contracts. In particular, focusing on supporting job creation for vulnerable groups of workers, especially workers from poor households, people with disabilities, ethnic minorities, rural youth... Along with that, the city will continue to arrange additional sources of the city's budget entrusted through the City Social Policy Bank Branch to provide loans to solve employment."
