IMD data shows that at the automatic weather station in Mungeshpur area (North Delhi), the temperature reached 52.3 degrees Celsius at around 2:30 pm on May 29.

Earlier, on May 28, two observatories – one in South Delhi’s Aya Nagar area and the other in the Ridge area near Delhi University – reported their highest ever maximum temperatures. On the same day, the observatory in Aya Nagar recorded a maximum temperature of 47.6 degrees Celsius, also the highest ever, surpassing the previous record of 47.4 degrees Celsius recorded at the same station in May 1988.

Heatwave continues to affect the daily activities of many people in India, with billions of people across Asia, including India's neighbor Pakistan, facing a hotter-than-usual summer in 2024, Indian media reported.

Scientists believe that the main cause of this situation stems from human-caused climate change.
