Finishing with a time of 4 minutes 12 seconds 28, Nguyen Thi Oanh set a new personal record in the 1,500m run but it was not enough for her to qualify for the 2023 World Athletics Championships.
Athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh
On the evening of August 19, athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh entered the qualifying round of the Women's 1,500m at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
The Vietnamese athlete tried her best and finished in 13th place with a time of 4 minutes 12 seconds 28. Thus, Nguyen Thi Oanh set a new personal record. However, this achievement was not enough for her to win a ticket to the next round.
Nguyen Thi Oanh's best achievement in this event was 4 minutes 13 seconds 88 in 2020.
At the 32nd SEA Games (May 2023), despite winning the Gold medal, she only achieved 4 minutes 16 seconds 85, while her achievement at the Asian Championship (July 2023) was 4 minutes 18 seconds 84.
In the event that Nguyen Thi Oanh competed in at the 2023 World Championship, there were 55 athletes participating in 4 races. Nguyen Thi Oanh participated in the 3rd race. She finished in 13th/14th place and could not make it into the Top 24 athletes participating in the Semi-finals.
It can be said that this 1,500m qualifying round is an extremely high-quality test, with strong opponents for Nguyen Thi Oanh to practice and prepare for the goal of winning a medal at the 19th Asian Games (ASIAD) taking place in Hangzhou (China) next month. All 55 competitors in the competition on the evening of August 19 had better personal achievements than her.
The world stage is beyond Nguyen Thi Oanh's reach, but this will be an opportunity for her to gain experience, re-evaluate her performance, and calculate her drop points to be suitable for the ASIAD - the most important stage for Oanh as well as Vietnamese athletics from now until the end of this year./.
