The AI tool from Meta, Facebook's parent company, will officially launch in Vietnam later this year.
"We are proud to be the only major technology company in Silicon Valley to provide free AI tools to Vietnamese users," said Nick Clegg, Meta's global external affairs president, at a media meeting on the sidelines of the Vietnam Innovation Day on October 1.
The tool, called Meta AI, works similarly to ChatGPT, but uses the Llama model developed by the company. Mr. Clegg emphasized that this is an open-source large language model that supports Vietnamese, helping Vietnamese businesses not to "spend billions of dollars to build their own large language models."
Meta representative also said that AI for businesses on Messenger has been tested in Vietnam since June and will be officially launched at the end of this year. The product can be brought to platforms such as Messenger and WhatsApp.
Along with AI, another focus of the Meta Foreign Affairs Chairman's visit to Vietnam this time is choosing Vietnam as the place to produce the Quest 3S mixed reality device, which was just introduced at the end of September, with a starting price of 300 USD.
The expansion of production in Vietnam is expected to create 1,000 jobs and contribute millions of dollars to the economy. "Vietnam continues to be an important country for Meta. Millions of Vietnamese small businesses and consumers use our platform," said Mr. Clegg.
In addition, the US technology company also said that it has cooperated with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi to provide credit training on AI for students, expected to be implemented in March 2025. The program aims to improve the skills of teachers and students, and experience AI safely and responsibly.
