GreenAms Robotics Team 24751 of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted participated in the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship 2025 in the US and won the runner-up position.
The results of the competition were announced early morning on April 20. Along with the world runner-up prize, the team also won the Edison group.
FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) was first held in 2006. This is one of the largest robotics competitions in the world, for students aged 13 - 18, initiated by the non-profit organization FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).
To enter the international round in Texas, USA, GreenAms won the Winning Alliance Captain and Design Award at the Vietnam Championship - the national round organized by FPT University.
About 9,000 teams participated in state qualifiers (in the US) and other countries. This is the second year Vietnam has been represented in the international round of this competition.
The competition took place from April 16 to 19 with 256 teams, divided into 4 groups. The teams had to program and control autonomous robots to move on the field, performing required tasks, such as picking up rectangular blocks, then dropping the boxes or climbing a bar. The field was 3 - 5m in size, each side of the robot did not exceed 50cm, and weighed about 10kg.
There are 64 teams in each group, 24 teams will be selected after the matches. This number will be divided into 8 alliances (each alliance has 3 teams) to continue to find the alliance that wins the group. The four alliances that win the championship will compete in the final to find the champion of the competition. The Ams team is in an alliance with two teams from the US and India.
In 2023, Vietnamese students won another FIRST tournament - the First Global Challenge (FGC). This tournament brings together national teams from 190 countries and territories. The FTC is for club teams, with a smaller arena and robots.
