At 1:38 p.m. on July 19, 2024, due to old age and serious illness, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong passed away at the 108 Central Military Hospital at the age of 80. Upon hearing the news of his passing, people across the country expressed their deep condolences, and social media users simultaneously changed their wallpaper to pay their respects to him, reviving his famous sayings. International friends rushed to send condolences to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the State and the people of Vietnam. Such respectful and loving feelings can only be shared by leaders who have devoted their entire lives to the country and the people.

To the Party members and people of the whole country, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has brought special feelings for what he has done for the country. The mark left by the head of the Party and State throughout his revolutionary career has been duly recognized when the Politburo decided to award him the Gold Star Order - the most noble medal of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to individuals with great and especially outstanding contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. That mark was summarized in the article by General To Lam, Politburo member, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, titled "General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong - An outstanding leader, devoted his whole life to the country and the people".

In his article, comrade To Lam emphasized: “General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, a great intellectual and talent of the Vietnamese revolution, an ideologist, a culturalist, a theoretical flag bearer of the Party, an excellent student who constantly studied and followed the ideology, morality and style of the great President Ho Chi Minh, devoted his whole life to the revolutionary cause of the Party and our nation, living his whole life for the country and the people.

Over 55 years of continuous operation, tempered in revolutionary practice, with strategic vision, sharp thinking, closely linked with practical summaries, comrade Nguyen Phu Trong and the Party Central Committee have applied and creatively developed Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh thought, constantly building an increasingly clean and strong Party; building a socialist rule-of-law state of the people, by the people, for the people; supplementing, perfecting and leading the successful implementation of the renovation policy, building our country "never before had the foundation, potential, prestige and international position like today".

Indeed, since comrade Nguyen Phu Trong became General Secretary, our country has undergone strong changes in both socio-economic and political aspects in the context of unpredictable changes in the world situation. This is the achievement of the entire Party, the entire people, and the entire army, including the great contribution of our Party leader, especially in the fight against corruption and negativity.

When the situation of corruption and negativity made our Party worried and the people uneasy, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong appeared at the right historical moment. He possessed the intelligence, courage, trust and support to be the flag-raiser, the drum-beater to attack the "dens" of corruption at all levels and in all sectors, calling on the entire Party, the entire people and the entire army to fight against the "internal invaders". Therefore, it is not by chance that the people call General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong "the great furnace-maker" and the "furnace" that he lit, when heated, "even fresh wood must burn", has warmed the people's trust in the Party and the State, so that the people understand that this State is of the people, by the people and for the people.

The leadership, direction and pioneering spirit of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong are obvious. However, what people will remember forever about him is the beauty of a person at the height of power, but still humble, simple and extremely honest. When attending a meeting with his old class, he asked someone to take him on a motorbike. When meeting his teachers and friends, he said: “Please let me, let me give up all titles outside this room. You come here forever as a student of the teachers of the past. I come here forever as a classmate of yours… Titles are like clouds!”

Now, that true communist soldier who served the Fatherland his whole life has gone to meet Uncle Ho, to the WORLD OF THE GOOD, but his imprints remain pure and bright, truly a typical example for cadres and party members to follow. Because he lived exactly as he said: “The most precious thing for a human being is life and the honor of living, because a person only lives once. One must live so as not to feel pain or regret for the years lived in vain, wasted; so as not to be ashamed of the mean, cowardly, scandalous, and scornful deeds; so that when one closes one’s eyes, one can be proud that: I have lived a useful life, have devoted all my life, all my strength to the most noble cause in the world: For the glory of the Fatherland, of the Party, for the happiness of the people, of humanity; so that our descendants will forever be grateful, respect, learn and follow."
