Every time Tet comes, people feel excited and happy. These days, not only do people happily welcome the new year, many people like to look back on the journey of the old year to review what they have done and what they have not done and draw lessons from life. Success or failure in a year and in each person's life is closely related to their self-cultivation.

What is self-cultivation? Simply put, self-cultivation is self-correction, self-criticism for progress. More generally, self-cultivation is the process of training morality, intelligence and physical strength to become a better person. It includes self-reflection, recognizing strengths, weaknesses, shortcomings, and from there making efforts to correct, improve, and improve. Self-cultivation is a form of ability - the ability to self-perfect. It is a long journey, full of thorns and challenges.

Self-cultivation plays a decisive role in helping each person progress, succeed, and be happy, while also preventing disasters and dangers. Confucius, the founder of Confucianism, once said, “Cultivate yourself, regulate your family, govern the country, and bring peace to the world,” implying that in order to manage your family and do great things for the country and the world, you must start with self-cultivation.

Regarding the self-cultivation of cadres, Uncle Ho once taught: “Everyone has shortcomings. When working, there will be mistakes. We are not afraid of making mistakes and shortcomings, we are only afraid of not trying to correct mistakes and shortcomings.”

Self-cultivation helps each person practice and cultivate good qualities such as compassion, honesty, responsibility, etc. to become a useful person for society. Self-cultivation also encourages people to be eager to learn and improve their knowledge to solve problems effectively, make wise decisions, and make progress in their careers. Improving ourselves will improve the quality of life because when we improve ourselves, life also becomes better.

History has recorded many shining examples of self-cultivation and self-training to achieve great achievements. In Vietnam, that is the example of ideology, morality and style of President Ho Chi Minh, the founder, leader and trainer of our Party, the great leader of the Vietnamese people. Throughout his life, he always promoted the spirit of self-cultivation with clear manifestations such as self-study, self-training, and constantly improving himself in all aspects. That is the example of the scholar Le Quy Don with his eagerness to learn and progress, considered an "encyclopedic mind" of Vietnam, leaving behind a lot of knowledge for the world...

In the world, there are countless great examples of self-cultivation to achieve great success. That is VI Lenin, the leader of the Russian proletarian revolutionary movement, famous for the spirit of "study, study more, study forever". That is Confucius, an outstanding thinker, who promoted Confucianism with profound teachings on ethics and education that have been valuable throughout the past and present and are still chosen to apply. That is Buddha, the founder of Buddhism to guide people to enlightenment, to liberate from suffering...

In contrast to the beautiful examples are the ugly, corrupt examples, which also originate from poor self-cultivation, or lifelong failure to cultivate oneself. In recent times, many officials, including high-ranking officials in the political system nationwide, have been disciplined and imprisoned due to corruption, negativity, degradation in political ideology, ethics, lifestyle, and violations of the law... Many of them were previously successful, famous, and held high positions, but because they did not protect themselves, correct themselves, and neglected self-cultivation, they had to accept bitter consequences.

Therefore, self-cultivation is a lifelong task, requiring perseverance, determination, clear self-awareness and overcoming one's own limitations and weaknesses. Someone once said that conquering oneself is the most glorious victory because of that meaning. If you want to improve yourself effectively, you need to base it on each person's specific circumstances. The first thing is to clearly recognize your own strengths, weaknesses, and areas that need improvement in order to set specific, clear goals. From that goal, build a plan, carry out each specific task with high determination and perseverance to hope for success.
