The website that was taken down was 2embed.to, a platform that hosted a lot of pirated content and powered more than 500 other pirated websites around the world with a total of 676 million visits per month.
The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE, under the Motion Picture Association of America) has just announced that it has taken down 2embed.to - a platform originating from Vietnam that specializes in providing movies, news, entertainment-sports programs... to hundreds of other illegal websites.
According to Similar Web, the platform once provided content to more than 508 sites with a total of 676 million illegal visits per month.
ACE said that after 2embed.to was “shut down,” more than 300 sites that used to get content from here also had to stop operating. In the past 2 years, the total traffic of these sites reached more than 2.7 billion times. Some other sites affected by 2embed.to include some familiar to Vietnamese people such as Fmovies and TV Film.
After 2embed.to, there are still some sites with similar domain names (also 2embed) appearing, but they are still being investigated and handled by ACE.
Authorized by 54 major companies, ACE uses the “knock and talk” method. This is understood as a compromise between the copyright owner and the operator of the infringing website.
Specifically, ACE will coordinate with investigative units to find the whereabouts of the violator. Then, the representative of the alliance will come to work so that the website owner can hand over management rights.
If the deal is successful, the site will display a notice that it has been taken down for copyright infringement and redirect to legitimate platforms.
The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) represents 54 companies specializing in film, news, and entertainment production such as Amazon, Netflix, Warner Bros. BBC Studios. ACE is also authorized by professional basketball and football leagues in the US, Spanish and English soccer leagues, etc.
Last July, ACE had a working session with the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Information and Communications and a number of enterprises K+, FPT, BHD... to strengthen coordination and handle cases of film copyright infringement in Vietnam.
