The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has just announced that an asteroid the size of a car is moving towards Earth at a speed of about 24,000 km per hour.

According to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), the asteroid named "2025 DQ" is estimated to be about 3.6 meters in diameter and will fly past Earth at a distance of 300,000 kilometers. The Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) said the asteroid's size could range from 2.7 to 6 meters.

Notably, "2025 DQ" is not the only object approaching Earth during this time. Another asteroid called "2012 DZ" which is larger in size, ranging from 16 to 36 meters in size, will also fly past Earth at a safe distance of about 1 million kilometers.

Earlier this week, NASA noted another notable case: asteroid "2024 YR4." Initially, the probability of this asteroid colliding with Earth in 2032 was predicted to be 3.1% - the highest NASA has ever recorded for an object of this size. However, the latest data has lowered that probability to 0.28%.

According to NASA, asteroids are small rocks left over from the formation of the solar system 4.6 billion years ago. Most of these objects are concentrated in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. Although some asteroids are classified as “potentially hazardous,” none pose a near-term collision risk, according to Paul Chodas, director of CNEOS.
