On February 7, Republican lawmakers in the US Senate released a new budget plan, which proposed increasing funding for President Donald Trump's priorities, including border security, energy and defense.

Meanwhile, the plan also proposes cutting domestic spending and postponing a decision on tax cuts until later this year.

Specifically, this plan will increase spending by $85 billion per year for four years, for a total increase of about $340 billion. However, this amount will be offset by cutting spending in other areas.

With slim majorities in both the Senate and House, Republicans have spent weeks trying to agree on a plan to pay for the tax cuts, a measure that the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget says could add between $5 trillion and $11 trillion to the national debt. The national debt is projected to reach $36 trillion over the next decade.
