The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said it is monitoring a new variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19.

According to a CDC post on social network X (formerly Twitter), the new variant, named BA.2.86, has been detected in the US, Denmark and Israel.
The US CDC is currently learning more about this variant.
