Despite fluctuating sales, Toyota Yaris Cross is still the best-selling model in the segment in the first quarter of 2025, surpassing its rival Mitsubishi Xforce.
According to a report by the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), SUVs/crossovers sold 8,630 units in March 2025, a sharp increase of 54.7% compared to the previous month (5,579 units). This is still the group of vehicles with the highest proportion in the market, accounting for 47.7% of total passenger car sales in March.
In the small MPV (AB) segment using internal combustion engines, the best-selling models in March saw a sharp increase in sales. Even the two leading models have delivered over 1,000 units to customers.
Most notable is the strong return of the Toyota Yaris Cross. If it sold less than 300 units in February, even 'disappearing' from the best-selling car list, then in March, the sales of the Yaris Cross reached 1,185 units and pushed its compatriot Mitsubishi Xforce to second place.
The top 5 best-selling cars in this segment saw the "disappearance" of both KIA brands, Seltos and Sonet, giving way to two familiar names, Hyundai Creta and Toyota Corolla Cross. The remaining model on this list is the Honda HR-V.
Below are the sales details of the top 5 best-selling small multi-purpose vehicles in March 2025:
1. Toyota Yaris Cross: 1,185 units
In March, 1,185 Toyota Yaris Cross were delivered to customers, 4.1 times higher than in February (only 287 units). Cumulatively in the first quarter of 2025, Yaris Cross sales reached 2,117 units, surpassing its rival Mitsubishi Xforce to lead the segment.
Toyota Yaris Cross was launched in the Vietnamese market at the end of September 2023. The car belongs to the B-SUV segment, imported completely from Indonesia with 2 versions, including 1 version using a 1.5L gasoline engine and 1 hybrid version, priced at 730 million and 838 million VND respectively.
2. Mitsubishi Xforce: 948 units
Mitsubishi Xforce sales reached 948 units in March, up 120% compared to February. However, the above number did not help this B-SUV model maintain its leading position in the segment. In the first 3 months of the year, 1,933 Xforce units were delivered to customers, still less than its competitor Yaris Cross.
The Mitsubishi Xforce B-SUV model is imported completely from Indonesia, launched in the Vietnamese market in January 2024 and started selling 2 months later. The car has 4 versions: GLX, Exceed, Premium and Ultimate with prices ranging from 599-705 million VND. All versions use a 1.5L engine combined with a CVT and front-wheel drive.
3. Toyota Corolla Cross: 618 units
Toyota's B+ SUV sold 618 units, up 46.5% from the previous month and still held the 3rd position in the top 5. The cumulative sales of Corolla Cross in the first 3 months of last year were 1,400 units.
In May 2024, Toyota's B+ crossover model was renewed, cutting the low version, the G version, and keeping only 2 versions: the V version with a 1.8L engine (pure gasoline) and HEV (hybrid). The selling prices of these 2 versions are 820 and 905 million VND respectively. The car is still imported completely from Thailand.
4. Honda HR-V: 390 units
Honda HR-V has increased by 1 rank compared to last month, to 4th place. Last March, 572 HR-Vs were sold on the market, an increase of 47% compared to the previous month. Cumulatively in the first quarter of 2025, HR-V sales reached 1,345 units, still slightly lower than its competitor Toyota Corolla Cross.
Honda HR-V, the current generation imported from Thailand and introduced in the Vietnamese market since June 2022, has just been slightly upgraded in early April with a hybrid engine version. Thus, HR-V is being introduced by Honda Vietnam with 3 versions including: 1.5 G priced at 699 million VND, 1.5 L priced at 750 million VND and e:HEV RS (hybrid) priced at 869 million VND.
5. Hyundai Creta: 476 units
With sales of 476 units, up 57% compared to February, Hyundai Creta has returned to the top 5 best-selling small MPVs in the market with a rather modest position. However, this is the only Korean representative on this list. Cumulative sales in 2025 of this model reached 1,200 units.
Hyundai Creta launched in mid-March 2022 in Vietnam, assembled domestically by Hyundai Thanh Cong Automobile Joint Venture with 4 versions, all using a 1.5L engine with a CVT gearbox. The selling price of the versions ranges from 640-745 million VND.
In addition to the top 5 list above, sales of some other small multi-purpose vehicles in March 2025 are as follows:
