In the match between Monaco and PSG in round 24 of Ligue 1 2023/24 early this morning, March 2, the away team, although rated higher, could not win.
PSG have left the rest of the field far behind in the Ligue 1 title race this season. Before competing with Monaco, PSG had 54 points, far ahead of Brest (43) and coach Hutter's own team (Monaco only had 42 points).
PSG's next match is against Sociedad in the Champions League in the middle of next week. Therefore, coach Luis Enrique really wants PSG to win against Monaco to boost their morale before the important match. As for Monaco, they are trying to compete with Brest for the second place... behind PSG.
Therefore, to take Brest's place, Monaco must beat PSG. But this is not an easy task when PSG's attack still has enough stars like Mbappe, Goncalo Ramos or Asensio.
In the first half, both teams played tit for tat. Opportunities were created but neither side could take advantage. The first half ended in a disappointing 0-0 draw.
Right at the beginning of the second half, Mbappe left the field, making way for Kolo Muani. The reason was because Enrique needed to save Mbappe's energy as well as the PSG captain seemed to have a slight pain after being marked for 45 minutes.
From here on, the match seemed to lose its appeal, although there were still opportunities when Muani and Dembele continued to stir up Monaco's defense. Unfortunately, goals still eluded both clubs.
In the end, Monaco and PSG drew 0-0. After round 24, PSG has 55 points, temporarily 12 points more than the second-ranked team Brest, 13 points more than Monaco.
