Atletico Madrid have agreed to sign Julian Alvarez for €95m from Man City.

Alvarez will join Atletico Madrid

August 6,Sky Sports, Marca Julian Alvarez is set to become the most expensive player sale in Man City's history, breaking the record held by Raheem Sterling, when he left the Etihad to join Chelsea in the summer of 2022 for €56.2 million.

"Atletico will pay Man City 75 million euros in transfer fees, along with 20 million euros in additional fees to own Alvarez. Previously, Man City only spent 21.4 million euros to recruit this striker from River Plate. Through his agent, Alvarez has agreed to sign a 5-year contract with Atletico," journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed.

The Alvarez deal came shortly after Atletico sold young striker Samu Omorodion to Chelsea for more than 35 million euros. Man City's decision to sell Alvarez was supported by Pep Guardiola, after the Catalan strategist heard somewhat dissatisfied statements from the player.

While participating in the men's football at the Paris 2024 Olympics with Argentina, Alvarez made a controversial statement when he declared: "Last season, I was one of the players with the most minutes at Man City. But no one likes to be left out of important matches."

This made Pep unhappy. The Man City captain is always known to be strict and will not keep any star who does not commit to the future with the team.

Last season, Alvarez played 54 times in all competitions. In terms of minutes played, the Argentine striker ranked 8th in the Man City squad.

However, Alvarez is dissatisfied with coach Guardiola when he has to be a substitute in many important matches of Man City in the 2023/24 season. In addition, the player's family also prefers to live in a place with a warmer climate than Manchester.
