Reasons why the Chairman of Cua Lo town and his subordinates were arrested

On the morning of May 25, Nghe An Provincial Police had official information related to the prosecution of the case, the prosecution of the accused and the temporary detention of the Chairman of the People's Committee of Cua Lo town and three officials and former officials of Cua Lo town.

Accordingly, in addition to Mr. Doan Tien Dung - 60 years old, Chairman of the People's Committee of Cua Lo town, the Investigation Police Agency of Nghe An province also temporarily detained the following men: Phan Cong Doi (47 years old, Deputy Chief of the Office of the Cua Lo Town Party Committee, former Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Cua Lo town); Nguyen Chi Nguyen (53 years old, Head of the Department of Justice, former Head of the Department of Finance, Cua Lo town); Nguyen Thanh Tung (62 years old, former Director of the Land Fund Development Center of Cua Lo town) and Hoang Khac Truong (52 years old, residing in Nghi Thu ward, Cua Lo town).

According to Nghe An Provincial Police, previously, following information from people reflecting on violations in the process of land acquisition and resettlement land arrangement in Cua Lo town, under the direction of the leaders of Nghe An Provincial Police, the Police Department investigating crimes of corruption, economy, smuggling, and environment investigated and verified.

During the investigation, the authorities determined that from January 2020 to June 2022, the People's Committee of Cua Lo town received and processed 53 applications for land recovery and resettlement of citizens to implement projects in the town.

53 plots of land (total area of ​​over 17,306m²) have been recovered and 85 plots of land (total area of ​​22,282.6m²) have been resettled for these households.

During the implementation process, the people involved committed many violations, showing signs of crime, specifically land recovery without sufficient grounds according to the provisions of the Land Law.

In compensation work, the procedures and regulations were not followed correctly; resettlement land was allocated to the wrong subjects, exceeding the limit; resettlement land prices were determined lower than the regulations...

According to a private source confirmed on the morning of May 25, Mr. Doan Tien Dung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Cua Lo town, was prosecuted and temporarily detained for 4 months to investigate the act of accepting bribes.

The Investigation Police Agency of Nghe An Province Police informs groups and individuals related to the violations at the People's Committee of Cua Lo Town to voluntarily report to receive leniency under the law.

Currently, the Police Department investigating crimes of corruption, economy, smuggling and environment is continuing to expand the investigation of the case.
