At least 18 people were killed and 42 others injured, including 19 seriously, in a series of attacks suspected to have been carried out by suicide bombers in the northeastern Nigerian state of Borno, Barkindo Saidu said on June 29.

According to Mr. Saidu, the suspected suicide bombers, all female, separately attacked a wedding, a funeral and a hospital in the town of Gwoza, which borders Cameroon.

At least 18 people were killed, including children and pregnant women.

No organization or individual has yet claimed responsibility for the series of attacks.

Borno state police have not commented on this information.

Borno state has been a "hotspot" of violence carried out by Islamic extremists over the past 15 years, killing thousands of people and displacing millions.

Although the Nigerian military has weakened the militants' capabilities, they continue to carry out bloody attacks on civilians and security targets.

Boko Haram militants seized Gwoza in 2014. A year later, with the support of Chadian forces, the Nigerian army regained control of the town.

However, Boko Haram continues to carry out attacks, claiming many lives.
