The 2024 AFC U20 Women's Championship Finals will be held in Uzbekistan from March 3-16, 2024, with the participation of the continent's eight best teams.
The teams will compete in a round robin in each group, selecting the top two teams in each group to enter the semi-finals. The two winning teams in the semi-finals will meet in the final match to compete for the championship.
The four teams with the highest results in the final round will qualify for the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Finals, taking place from August 31, 2024 in Colombia.
Previously, to best prepare for the tournament, the Vietnam U20 Women's Team traveled to Uzbekistan on February 21 to have more time to adapt to the weather conditions (average temperature of 10 degrees Celsius) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
During this process, coach Akira Ijiri's team had two important friendly matches with host Uzbekistan. This was considered a "dress rehearsal" for the Japanese coach to make the final decision on the roster as well as arrange the best playing style for the team.
In the first match, the Vietnam U20 Women's Team excellently held the host U20 Women's Team to a 1-1 draw against the Uzbekistan U20 Women's Team, in snow and rain and temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius.
In the second friendly match that took place later, the Vietnam U20 Women's Team won 4-1 against the host team Uzbekistan right before the 2024 AFC U20 Women's Championship finals.
Ngoc Minh Chuyen (double), Nguyen Thi Mai Huong and Vu Thi Hoa were the ones who scored to bring victory to the Vietnam U20 Women's Team.
This result helps the Vietnam U20 women's team confidently aim to achieve the best results against higher-rated opponents at the 2024 AFC U20 Women's Finals.
"The Vietnam U20 women's team will meet opponents who are rated much higher in the final round of the U20 Asian Women's Championship. Therefore, we encourage each other to prepare carefully and try harder during this time. Coach Akira Ijiri also always reminds us that as representatives of Vietnamese football, we must strive and be determined for the country's flag," goalkeeper Kieu My shared before the team entered the tournament.
To prepare for the opening match, on the morning of March 2, the whole team visited and walked around the official stadium for the first match against the Japanese U20 team.
Due to the heavy snow and rain, the walking time was not long. However, the coaching staff also reminded the athletes to feel and get familiar with the field surface, preparing for the possibility of snow or rain that would make the field slippery, affecting the accuracy of the ball passes as well as increasing the possibility of injury.
Afterwards, coach Akira Ijiri and the players participated in photo and video shoots to serve the tournament's media coverage. The players were all excited and wanted to capture many beautiful moments in their first participation in the biggest youth tournament in the continent.
