Robert Lewandowski has surpassed two colleagues, Mohamed Salah and Lionel Messi, to win the FIFA The Best 2021 award. This is the second consecutive year that Lewandowski has been honored.
Since the Best award was launched in 2016, Lewandowski and Cristiano Ronaldo have won the most prestigious award from FIFA twice. This is considered a worthy reward for Lewandowski after Lionel Messi "snatched" the 2021 Ballon d'Or award from him.
Lewandowski, who won FIFA's The Best award last year, is considered a killer in front of goal, having scored 43 Bundesliga goals in a calendar year, breaking the record set by legendary Gerd Müller from 1972, and 58 in all competitions in just 47 appearances.
This season alone, Lewandowksi has 34 goals for Bayern after 27 matches. At the moment, Lewandowski is also leading the list of Bundesliga 2021/22 top scorers and the European Golden Shoe.
In addition to winning the Best Men's Player award, Lewandowski was also included in the FIFA Team of the Year. According to statistics, Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to be included in the team for 15 consecutive years from 2007-2021. In addition, Ronaldo was honored as the player with the best scoring record at the national team level in history.
In the coaching category, Chelsea's Thomas Tuchel was honored. This result is completely deserved as Tuchel helped this club win the Champions League and the European Super Cup.
Meanwhile, the best male goalkeeper award also went to a Chelsea member, goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. Notably, although Mendy was honored, the goalkeeper in the typical lineup was reserved for Gigi Donnarumma (Italy/CclubMilan and PSG).
